Trying an oversized jacket! K/R

Ran across this jacket in Nordstrom Rack and decided to push my comfort zone and try it on. I decided to buy so I could try it on at home and get feedback. Am I delusional for kinda liking it? Is it too big? It seems to fit across the shoulders but it's definitely generous in the body. It's a size 8, and I usually take a 6 or 8 in jackets.

I know my backside is not my best side, and I didn't straighten the jacket first, but I included a back view to show the cutaway hem. Keep in mind my shoulders are uneven and very few jackets fit across my back without some bit of wrinkling.

Brutally honest feedback, please! I want to experiment with silhouettes other than my usual moto jackets and fitted styles, but if this isn't working, I want to know.

Janet this looks good on you. Especially combined with a chunky turtleneck the way you have here. I'm not sure if it would work over a thinner layer because then the shoulders would sag, but this way is just fine. What is it like buttoned up?

I like it on you Janet. I don't love it just yet though. Maybe it needs something other than the turtleneck sweater I"m thinking.

I think it needs an open neck. Like an assymetrical white tee that's longer in back, to fill the split aspect of the back. Or just a long loose white tee that you semi tuck.

Or a white blouse. Anyways, I see white here.

It could be a touch big, but maybe not. I was going to say the same thing as Denise, I would like to see it with something sleek underneath. Then the oversive intention will be very evident. I think the shape is cool from both the front and back.

I liked it open, but not buttoned. But I'm with Denise and Tina about needing to see something different under it.

I like the oversized look, but at that size to me it looks like a coat more than an indoor jacket (I assume it's supposed to be a modified blazer-type jacket?).

I've got to say that while I like the jacket from the front, I've got real problems with the back part. To me it looks like part of the jacket is missing. Sorry to be a downer.

I want to like it, but (there is that infamous but!) I just don't think it is fab on you. I can't pinpoint why, and it may just be too much slouch for me as I have not yet really adjusted to the slouchy trend.

It looks messy and unintentional to me.

I love the jacket and I really love the back! Just love the drama!

But I think it might be too big for you, looks like it is falling off your shoulders. Would like to see a size smaller which I suspect would still look oversized but would fit better in the shoulders.

May not be possible if it's not at the RACK though.....

I actually like it from the back but really dislike it from the front. At least as styled here. To me it looks like something you've actually held onto since the 80s. *ducks*

I dunno, it might look better with a lighter layer like the tee Denise suggested.

Try it over a silk blouse or a darker column of color. Do you have coated skinnies? I think the jacket has potential and you know I'm right up your alley on team figure flattery. I love the back and the front seems to drape nicely. I think the jacket needs to be perceived as more avant garde,

I would wear over a silk blouse or tunic, dark skinnies and some low heeled booties.

There are things I like about it, but I am going to be PPP about this. There are things I like about it, but others that give me pause, which is why I wanted feedback. I like the unique twist of the back detail, so I'm on the lookout for something with a similar modern twist so it doesn't look like something I've had in my closet since 1990. I don't love the double-breasted cut, but I would probably only wear a jacket like this open anyway.

I think this will be returned, and I will keep an eye out for something better.

Onward and upward!

You don't have to worry that it makes you look bigger. In fact, you look like a little kid, wearing clothes that are swimming on her. The cowl neck probably exaggerates this effect. But I'm having difficulty...maybe it's something I just need to get used to?

Hmm, I really love the back. It's so interesting and unexpected and I think the cut is actually really flattering through the shoulder and back. However, I'm not sure I like the front. I think it looks too long and boxy and is swallowing you up. (I totally sympathize! I have exactly the same problem with like every single boyfriend-style blazer I've ever tried on.)

Also, it weirdly looks like an overcoat from the front but a indoor jacket from the back...

I would try styling it a bit more than giving up on it. Something as "avant" as this is bound to get some negative feelings from others.

Ohmigosh, I seriously like this jacket.

But that back will probably severely hamper it's ability to function like a jacket - i.e., keep you warm.

I think it's really interesting and has potential, and I am glad you tried it. I can see why you're not going to keep, but I'd also like to see it styled with a very different kind of top.

The style its interesting and lots of fun. My reservation is more practical, out looks like heavy wool which I could only wear if chilly...but the back won't keep my backside warm...so id struggle to find a time to wear it. Is it as heavy as it looks?
