Trying a vest over blazer

Not sure, too much? It's a little ALGO and not something I'm used to on me, but what do you think? I'm not leaving the house yet (haven't even put on makeup as you can see), so I'm not committed to this outfit yet and can tweak it. I wanted to try the vest over jacket after seeing Denise's links in the Mongolian vest link this morning, but don't hesitate to tell me if this isn't hitting the mark.

I think it is fun! A little unexpected layering, and you've managed to not look too bulky. I love that vest.

Hmm...I don't know. I like the idea of this, but something about that vest is making your upper body look very bulky. This is not the best example, but all I can think of is Gossamer from Looney Tunes!

I think a lower pelt vest or one with a deeper V neck would work better. Everything under the vest is lovely!

I've been trying to make this work too. I want to do my furry vest over denim but haven't found the perfect combination or occasion to wear them yet.

It looks fun. How does it feel? Will it be practical for the day? To me, it would come down to that. If it's not practical it won't feel good.

I like the look of this Janet. I think the bookending of the boots and the lighter tones in the vest work well to make the outfit cohesive and then the low colour contrast between your blouse and the blazer keeps the overall look from being too much.

I think I must just have a poison eye for most furry vests. I wanted to add that I agree with Shannon and love how you bookended the boots with the vest, even if my eye doesn't like the vest itself

I feel like your blouse/shirt is competing for attention. If it were a plain or tweed sweater or a solid, small (brown?) geometric pattern, or gold (like Denise's) blouse/shirt, it would work for me. Otherwise, I think the vest looks great over the blazer!

I'm impressed that you've managed to pull off this many layers without too much bulk. Love the color palette and bookending. The only awkward thing to my eye is how your neck seems to get lost from view with the collar and your long hair. You could try pulling your hair back if you're not opposed to that change.

Sorry to bump, but I wanted to say thanks for all the feedback and update to let you know I *did* actually leave the house like this the other day. And I actually enjoyed it -- it was cozy and I liked the twist, since I have worn the vest over a denim jacket before, but not a blazer, and I actually liked the different lengths of the layers.

When I warmed up a bit, the vest came off and the blazer and color-blocked top underneath looked polished together, but a little dressier. I carried my metallic clutch, which felt just right since it picks up tones in the boots and the vest and added just a touch of shine.

Oh, Jewell, I meant to respond. I like the idea of pulled-up hair with this, but my hair is not really long enough to pull up. It kind of ends right where the furry vest begins. It's a little awkward, but I don't really have any other solution with my hair this in-between length.

Thanks, Shannon! It's a little tricky to get the proportions right, I think. Vest length, shirt length, blazer length -- I found that if the lengths are all the same it looks wrong, but there seems to be a balance point where the varying lengths work best. At least on my body! I thought it might be fun and a little more boho with bootcuts and higher heeled platform boots too.
