My husband and I recently spent a week in Michigan’s upper peninsula. Despite the cold weather and some rain, was it ever beautiful this time of year!
Getting there was a bit of a fiasco though.
Plan A - We had originally hoped to rent an RV for a trip to Mount Rushmore without dogs. We’ve been short handed at work so I couldn’t get a firm OK for vacation time. As a result we couldn’t commit to an RV rental. Last minute vacation approval led to a last minute change of plans and
Plan B - a shorter trip to the UP, but *with* the dogs. One doesn’t travel well but we were hoping he would be ok sitting with me in the back - and sedated if necessary.
Fast forward to two days before departure and our reservation was cancelled because the RV had been in an accident that morning. Passengers were fine.
On to Plan C - taking the dogs in our car and scrambling - successfully - for dog friendly hotels.
Plan D - having doubts about possibly sedating the dog for a week. Had a major stroke of luck by working with a new coworker - on the day of departure no less - who has a daughter who dog sits and was available!
So many beautiful waterfalls - some even roadside - and turning leaves.
We had hoped to take a cruise at Pictured Rocks national lakeshore but it was cancelled due to high winds and waves.

Such a nice trip,
