The ones I ordered from Asos gave arrived. One was immediately ruled out because of the colour, the other, teal one, is pictured here. Please excuse weird facial expressions!
Also I tried on a shorter, navy trench from forever new, also pictured

I love the navy trench on you. The teal is pretty, but I don't really like the arm tie - it would bother me because on me I can get hooked onto things with details like that (I once got caught on a door handle and ripped my sleeve). I also love the gold hardware on the navy jacket.

I have a 3/4 black trench and find it very versatile for our weather and also travelling - so the navy gets my vote.

I have a love for colored trench coats. I got behind in my reading and will have to find your original posts and start from the beginning.

I personally love the teal trench coat (I like them longer because I wear them as a shield against adverse weather). Bijou's point about the arm ties might be right. The ties look loose. However, if it is not a problem for you, I really like that detail.

Oh wow, I adore the navy one on you! Fit looks perfect, and the bright hardware gives it some interest. It looks fantastic with the dark jeans and metallic sneaks -- perfect polished-casual vibe.

The navy blue one is super cute on you. I think the teal looks slightly large. Can you try a size smaller? Also, do you have a preference for length? Personally, I find just above the knee to be more versatile. How/when are you planning to wear it?

I love the proportions of the navy trench on you. It looks like it fits perfectly. The teal color is lovely on you but it looks a little big.

Wow- what a dilemma- I love the color of trench #1 but think you will have to tweak the fit a bit ( sleeves definitely) but I love the navy one also. I think it is a better fit. I find the short trench personally appeals to me more although Sterling is very right about coverage with longer teal one.
So I guess I vote for either......or both- helpful I know

The blue one stands out at the first sight - it seems to fit you very well and the hardwear looks chic - to my eye a modern look, especially the way it is styled in the picture. Nice colour on you and you look great in it.

The teal is also very nice. To my eye a more classic look, great colour and I like the details on the sleeves. Although I agree with Bijou on the practical aspects - I have actually had exactly the same experience - got stuck in a door handle with my jacket and ripped it. The teal one looks a bit looser in the fit than the navy one - but not too big to my eye. But I am not an expert on fit ...

It depends which style you prefer length wise.

I think the navy one is a better fit, and may be because it is shorter, it may be that it will look better with trousers. The teal is a great colour though.

Oh dilemma! The navy appears to fit you perfectly! But the two coats are so different it's hard to compare them. The teal is pretty, but I'm also wondering if you could wear it a size down or maybe if there's a petite? I'm also wondering if navy fits your desire for a colored trench since it's technically neutral. I hope this helps-gives you food for thought anyway.

I think the teal is too big and the ties are an issue. I love the navy, fits and suits you perfectly with great hardware. But you did ask for coloured... will navy make you happy?

The teal is a beautiful colour on you, and I'm not sure the coat itself is too big (though it might be). However, the sleeves and sleeve ties make it appear too big because they are overwhelming everything else about it. With a shorter, smart button sleeve instead, I might call the teal a winner, but not in its current incarnation.

The navy, on the other hand, looks really great. I love the fit and the hardwear, and the length is very flattering. It wouldn't be as versatile as a longer trench, but it is gorgeous.

Bijou and Katerina - yes the arm detail surprised me - I hadn't really noticed it on the picture. I suspect you are right about it catching. I'm rather clumsy and also don't really like sleeves that are full at the bottom (in practice, rather than aesthetically - I can just see it getting wet when I wash my hands, for example).
Always great to hear from Bijou on weather too, since we live in the same city.
Sterling I kind of like the look of the arm ties too, and the length is in itself ok for me too.
Kathie, Toban and ebfgen I suspect you are right about fit, though I'm also not sure how a trench should fit. I tried the teal coat with a suit jacket underneath (not pictured) and the belt still had folds in it where the fabric was drawn in. Thoughts?

Kathie - I haven't made up my find about length yet. In terms of how to wear it, I hope to begin in late Autumn here in Australia - in May when it starts raining. I do have warmer coats if needed for colder winter mornings. I would wear it to and from work, and also casually for MOTG activities and church. I hope it would be very versatile and give me many years of service as this is a big expenditure in the context of my budget.

Dana and Jenni would I be satisfied with Navy? Hmmm. I can say that navy is much better than black on me - I had a black trench years ago when I first joined YLF and it wasn't good. I also don't want a pastel trench like the lovely one ebfgen has - it looks great but I don't think I could keep it clean enough. My current winter coats are red and pale pink. So not sure!

I think this feedback has been enough to make me send the teal trench back. BTW the other trench I ordered but didn't photograph was in slate and was ASOS brand - it fitted better. So I think Miss Selfridge brand (the teal trench) runs bigger. While you never know without trying, I suspect I could have sized down.

Last question - in pic 5 I feel that I look a bit waistless. I know this is a bit of a recurring issue with me. Is this a deal breaker?

Can you “ hold on” to the navy one long enough to get a one size down on teal- then make a decision? I know what you mean about trying things on with layers - sometimes if you straddle a size it can throw you off the fit game. And yes- I am rolling the dice with the light blue and the law of attraction with me and dirt- lol. But I really wanted that color

I think these look really nice on you, not "waist-less" at all. I love the teal one, love the length and color, but agree that the ties on the sleeves might be a pain and they do make it look big. The navy fits beautifully but isn't quite as fun as the teal, more of a classic look I guess.

The navy is perfect on you! I love the fit, details, and color. Looks sharp and classic, like you could wear it forever.

The teal, while a pretty color, looks somewhat big and sloppy compared to the navy. Maybe a size down would help.

ebfgen I haven't actually bought the navy one - just tried it on in the shop, but I imagine it's still available since it is new stock. I could try ordering a size down in the teal but I'm pretty certain that the arm ties are a deal breaker.

I so feel your “pain”..... I think. It is so frustrating when you look amazing and the fit is perfect.....in your second (?) choice. You look amazing in both colors- teal and navy ( I am thinking we are similar in color season though nothing similar in coloring- hair etc).
I started my trench search just saying- I love navy (it’s my strongest basic) but I want a different color dang it! I wish I could have found teal (my strong accent color) -until I saw it on you, I did not know it existed. I understand your sleeve concerns (although reverse of mine- I have long arms so I could always use extra fabric but sleeves are easily remedied)
I also think the styles offer 2 different looks- the short one can be styled as a jacket/ blazer while long can be an all weather.
I saw your dilemma immediately......been in it that position before. But in my old age, I have learned to not walk away from amazing things- I just budget very carefully - reason for saving and only buying that which you love. No matter what you decide- you already found success- now I wish you peace in your decision.

The teal one was ordered online and I didn't order a lower size. The navy one I know I tried on two sizes but can't remember which photo I showed. I'll go back on my lunchbreak and try again.

Thanks RL - If anyone sees another teal trench anywhere for $150 or less do let me know!! I'd consider purple too, I think if it was bright, not greyed or pastel. Or maybe metallic?

I did go and try the coats in a 8 (US 4) and a 6 (US 2)

The 6 fits smoothest on the torso, but the belt would be too high, and it is a bit tight across the shoulders on the back. The 8 still feels a little tight, but the belt is a better height - it does gather a little though. I think my picture above was the 10 - none of them in the shop by now to try on.
