trench recommendations

I am aware of Burberry, but I'm don't think I'm ready to take the plunge! Do you have recommendations for a good quality, nice looking trench?

This is the sort of thing I shop menswear for. The materials and finish are usually better, and you're more likely to find a weatherproof performer. (This upsets me no end - as if women don't want to stay dry too!) No particular thoughts on brand, although I have a lovely men's macintosh from Ralph Lauren and Mr Edge has a nice trench from COS.

As the owner of a 30-year-old Burberry I still love, I recommend them so highly that I think you might want to check out Ebay for a man's version of the classic.

Why the man's version?

I found a vintage Burberry a couple of months ago, with a zip out liner, but it was too big on me. Sigh. I also had a military trench, but it was also too big. I'm keeping my eyes open. If I can figure out what I want, I can definitely search online.

I suggest the man's version both because they don't seem to make as many style tweaks to them through the years and because, the last time I looked, they were going for less $ on Ebay. And I enjoy feeling like my trench protects and envelopes me, as well as looking mysteriously glamorous. But I'm 5'8". Might not work if you are very petite or are going for a sharply tailored look.

You could watch BR. They often have trenches, although the quality and design vary.

Tania - I'm on the market for trench coat as well and one of my favorites (look wise) is London Fog (similar to the one on the photo). I haven't bought anything yet though so cannot comment on the quality.

I bought a London Fog on clearance. It's a single-breasted one with a similar collar and that's the same color as the one Daria just posted, but a longer length. I purchased it with absolute certainty that I'd love it and get a lot of wear out of it. I had an identical one years ago that I wore for about 10 years. It never wore out. I just got tired of it and got rid of it when my DH and I moved to a warm climate where it wouldn't be needed.
