Spring coats: Here we go again!

After much agonizing over the double-breasted red trench, and lots of helpful advice, I went looking online for a better one.

I really wanted to find one by this weekend because I'm going out of town and would like to have a raincoat/ trench for my trip.
Angie and others suggested a that a single-breasted trench might be better, and maybe without a belt, and some suggested true red, and I found one on Zappos that meets all the criteria. Is it an improvement? I just don't know anymore!

Then, today, in the depths of my own closet, I found this ancient green one that I had forgotten about! I guess that means I should clean my coat closet more often!
It's from Barneys, and I haven't worn it for years, but it seems like it might be back in style now, or am I dreaming? It's sort of a lime green, brighter than the first pictures show, with a green and white checked lining. I think it's cute, but is it dated, too twee, an OK color for me...?
Keep or purge?

Is the green one a similar cut to the red one here? The green one looks a little big to me? I think my peference here is for the red one. It appears to be a nice fit, the color is fabulous and I think it may be a tad shorter than the green.

I am not sure these are actual classic trench coat in design/ styling though...not that it matters as you are looking for rain coats right?

Parsley - I'm afraid to say I'm not feeling the green trench at all. I find the colour a little subdued and it seems too large for you. The red colour is so much prettier on you and seems a better fit too.

Deborah, yes they're very similar in style, although the red one has an empire seam.

It's not really a question of one vs. the other: I'd like to have a new one if I can find one, but the question on the green one is whether to keep it in addition, or donate it.

Taylor, you're right, these aren't really trench coats. I'll change my title. Thanks!

Thanks, Shannon! Don't worry, I just want opinions, and it doesn't hurt my feelings at all if it's not a keeper! The green is just a surprise bonus find.

The funny thing is, it really is not too big. In the back view picture it was unbuttoned, but when buttoned it's snug enough that I couldn't wear it any smaller.

I guess I don't understand anything in trenches and coats but I liked the previous red one better on you. Even though it was double breasted it was more flattering than these two...
Sorry, I am not really useful here...
ETA: I know now, it is the neckline! These two coats have higher necklines which are less flattering in my eye that the double breasted with the lower collar which forms a nice "V".

Well, I still think the Talbots one was better. IMO, that one gave you some waist and curves. It also created a nice, tailored looking shoulder, and you could wear it with a deeper V neck which I found slimming and thought it drew attention to your face. The shape on both of these looks more rectangular to my eye and not as flattering. Sorry if I'm making life difficult!

I totally love the detail of the green one...and it is a good fit...bonus! I would like to see it OPEN over white button up and dark denim with the white collar poped and the coat sleeves scrunched:)

Of course continue to look for the perfect coat...I like the red too:)

Of these two, the red is much better color on you imho. The green is a bit washed out? Maybe it's the contrast with dark underneath. Does the green fit into any color schemes in your closet? If you wear lighter shades or white jeans, etc. it might be a good alternative since you own it already.
I didn't see the other red mentioned but that seems to be a great color for a coat!

I agree with you! I really liked the Talbots one, but after reading people's comments here, I didn't feel so good about it. Maybe I should just keep it, especially since I would wear it open the majority of the time, anyway. Then I can keep looking for a more perfect one.

It is next to impossible to find a single-breasted one that I like.
Here's a style I love, if it were in a different color, and a lower price!

Didn't see the Talbots coat, but of these two I like the red best -- a good color for you! I like red coats because they work in both fall and spring -- along with navy and khaki. Most important? Wear what you love, what puts a smile on your face!

Marcy, can I first just say that your haircut is fabulous? I love it! It looks like you have such nice, thick hair, too!

Okay, about the coats, I think a red trench is a great idea for you. Whether you keep this one or the Talbots one (or continue looking). Sometimes when you post one item, it will get shot down because we have nothing to compare it with. I'm now liking the cut of the Talbots one better comparted to this single-breasted raincoat. Something about the single-breasted coats seem a little more 90's to me or maybe naughties, whichever the case may be. Since you already have two like that--love the bronze colored one--it might be fun to have a beltted, double-breasted style. I often tie the belt of mine tightly behind me to fake a waist. Then I don't have the line of the belt breaking up my short-waistedness. I love both red colors on you. I'm not crazy about the light green one because it's such a pale color and you seem to come to life in the stronger saturations. Good luck!

The red one looks more fitted than the green, but since you already own the green one going for the same cut and same design would not be a better idea. You could alter the green one to fit more snuggly. The red color however looks more brighter than the green one.

Marcy, I didn't get a chance to comment on your other thread, but I wanted to say that I love the thought of a red trench. The red is so pretty with your coloring and did I like the Talbots's one on you. I have a black Michael Kors trench that I bought several years ago and love, although mine is actually a tad too big and doesn't have a belt. I googled Michael Kors trenches and this one popped up. Just wanted to throw another option out there in case you are still on the fence about the Talbot's one. Most likely, you've probably already come across this one in your search.

I agree with Sveta and Rae --- I like the shape of the Talbots coat better. It framed your face well and it had really good structure in the shoulders.

I love #2 - the style that Debora linked to. A revere collar is a very good idea because it breaks up the torso and bust area, Parsley.

I prefer the single breasted styling and lack of belt here, but the neckline is a deal breaker I'm afraid.

Debora, and Angie, That's funny- I had already ordered that same Kenneth Cole coat and it is due to arrive later today! I got it in black, though, instead of red because I wasn't sure I liked the iridescence with the red color, but somehow it looks better to me in black. The iridescent red looks sort of gaudy to me, at least in the picture.
I'll post pictures when it arrives. If the fit is good maybe I'll try it in red just to see.

I wanted to have a coat in time for my trip this weekend, but if the right thing doesn't appear before then, well, I *will* be in a city with good shopping- I might just find one there!

Am I the only one who has a problem with the iridescence of that Kenneth Cole in red? I'm just afraid of looking all "bright and sparkly".

Parsley, no. I don't like bright iridescent coats. I feel exactly like you, too bright and sparkly. I like more subtly.

I was just going to ask the same question about "bright and sparkly" coats. I came across the Kenneth Cole trench before and would have ordered it if it were not iridescent. The style is great but the shiny fabric gives me pause.

I wondered about the iridescence, too, but I thought I would throw it out there since store photos can be misleading. I love the idea of it in black - the sheen might be less noticeable.in that color. I can't wait to see it on you, and I think the side buckles will give you some nice waist definition.
