While I didn't snap a ton of fashion pics on the trip, I LOVED taking in all the European street style and seeing how it differed from region to region. We visited Paris (both the city and a nearby nature resort), Amsterdam, Antwerp, Munich, Köln, and several smaller locations in between.
French style was definitely more polished than the other locations. Straight hair reigned supreme in France, with more tailored clothing than the comparatively more relaxed styles we saw in Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Denim was highly varied, with jeans growing wider, the younger the wearer. Big scarves were worn with insouciance everywhere, which is definitely not a norm here in SoCal, where they feel a bit fussy and overdone. Puffers were ubiquitous. Trenches have gotten longer since I bought my knee-length coat.
These photos are out of order, but bear with me and I'll do my best to accurately locate them.
#1 A small fashion purchase. I got these fun floral shoelaces in a Japanese import store in Paris. They'll go either in my Chucks or my Vans.
#2 Pearl-studded Converse at a secondhand shop in Le Marais, Paris.
#3 We spent a morning with 22-yo kiddo leading us through Paris thrifting. Between London, Paris, and Antwerp, he came home with quite a few treasures! These "kilo shops" were really neat. Items had different-colored tags and each color was associated with a cost/kilo. When you checked out, they simply weighed your clothes and charged you as if you were buying produce. (Oh, and that’s kiddo stepping out with his purchases.)
#4 I loved this pattern, but it was a pocket-square rather than a scarf.
#5 Pleated skirts on the secondhand rack in Paris.
#6 I bought this wool scarf at the Louvre. It's based on a 14th century Italian silk.
#7 A stylish couple in Paris. Her shoes and bag strap matched his pants. We saw a lot of men wearing burgundy trousers in Paris. In Germany, mustard bottoms were everywhere. Oh, and I saw more crossbodies in Europe with woven guitar straps than without. They were available to purchase everywhere, even places like train station souvenir shops.
#8 A mother and daughter, I think. Loved the teen's Docs and plaid shacket.
#9 Dior windows were the best. I could see Angie in this outfit, especially the jeans and shoes.
#10 Another plaid shacket coat. This one in Köln.
#11 Man in a bomber jacket in Munich.
#12 I remembered Stagiaire Fash asking about these insulated tights, but I'd never seen them in the wild. I saw quite a few women in them on chilly, rainy days in Germany.
#13 This woman at the Viktuelienmarkt in Munich reminded me a bit of Runcarla, who I could totally see in this outfit. Zoom in to see the bright sweater cuffs peeking out from her trench.
#14 This Dior dress in an Amsterdam shop window. Love.
#15 A typical polished French woman at the nature resort. The coat, scarf, and bag make whatever's beneath a non-issue.
#16 LA style at the airport. It was a fun game at the departure gate to try to figure out who was French and who was American.
