Update: Trapeze dress?

Hi Fabbers! Has anyone tried these Karen Kane dresses? I don't have any trapeze styles--is this an IT friendly shape? Thanks in advance!

Update: went to old navy at lunch and tried this on. The fabric is a little on the thin side--I think the Karen Kane would be more substantial but also a little fuller (based on the online pic.) Do you think the KK version is worth a shot or should I pass on this style?

I've tried similar Eileen Fisher dresses and they look surprisingly terrible on me, maybe because of the neckline and bust. You would think they would work, but not all trapeze dresses are alike. This is one style where I think a fabric with a little structure helps. But you have to try to know for sure!

Old navy has similar dresses on sale right now so if you aren't sure this style is for you, perhaps try those first.

I personally love love love trapeze style dresses, and I'm an IT / apple. The trick is in the arms and legs -- you want some structure, i.e, sleeveless with shorter length.

Thanks, Una. Maybe that's why I don't have any trapeze styles in my closet. Something about the fullness in the waist makes me think they likely won't work. Thanks for the reality check!

I just bought that ON striped dress in b&W stripe today! Could not resist at that price. Also, I saw someone else wearing it out and about last weekend and she looked smashing. She was a busty IT.

I have a similar dress in black with elbow length sleeves and a scoop neck that I like very much, and a navy dress with sort of cap sleeves. Sleeves can be tricky. For a dress like this, they ave to hit just at the right place to add in necessary structure. I suspect your #2 choice would be harder to pull off than #1 -- but you know your arms better than I do!

No, it's from last year and it has elbow length sleeves but it's held up well and is a nice cut. Try a few and see!

I'm a busty IT and I just purchased this one in another color, and it's surprisingly flattering. I am still deciding whether or not to keep it because it has no stretch at all, but for the price may go for it. I do think the silhouette works.

I have the Old Navy dress in cobalt blue and I love it, even if I'm a little busty for it. That's the dress I found I needed a tank with, though, because the armholes are so deep.

I love these but have wondered the same thing. I am straight and busty and am afraid they would hang too right down from my bust. I do have one with 3/4 sleeves that I wear in winter and I like it, but not sure how flattering it is. The ON ones are really cute, tempting...

I love this dress on you! I suspect the Karen Kane one might not be as flattering for the reasons you've said, but I don't see any tenting effect here, maybe because you're not as busty as some of us. Lucky!

I think the first tent dress would work for an IT due to the slightly cut in shoulders. The short sleeves on the second one would broaden the shoulder line. IMHO, these dresses look better on the short side.

Macys usually has them. I've attached one of the ones I got last year in Finds. The link has collared ones with zips that can lower the neckline in a way that most cannot.

There seems to be a big difference in how much "extra" material there are in the suggestions, if I am correct. That would make a big difference it how it looks. Just something to take into consideration.

The ON one looks great but I do see the bit if sheerness. For a summer dress, I like to hold out for ones that don't require a layer underneath.
