Thanks everyone.
The six million dollar dog (and his substantial pharmacy) came home yesterday. I couldn’t say goodbye to him and went ahead with the surgery.
My vet felt it was critical enough to send us to the university emergency room. They weren’t able to unblock him either, so his bladder was surgically drained Thursday night - I got home at 3am.
Unfortunately, circumstances just didn’t work out to have the procedure done at home less expensively.
On Friday they performed a cystostomy to clean out the stones and grit and a urethrostomy to create a new exit for the urine because his urethra is so narrow.
Looks like a pretty nasty surgery to me, but I have never been so happy to see a dog pee!
I took yesterday and tomorrow off work so I can keep an eye on him and my other pug. I think she enjoyed being the only dog in the house for a couple of days.
The surgeon says to expect a 10-14 day recovery.
Thanks again for listening to my frantic venting.
