Topper for sheath dress?

I have 2 sheath dresses which are I consider my going out capsule for many events. For colder winter months I have 2 leather toppers which work so well. For warmer summer months I do not have a topper at all.
One dress is a simple black sheath, the other a print black/white sheath.
My sons grad is coming up soon and I do need to have something.
Do you wise ladies have any suggestions for me?
It doesn't have to be super fancy but I don't want to look like I am trying too hard or frumpy.
Do you think this type of shrug might be good? I am in Canada so am limited to what I can order in this neck of the woods.

I like a blazer with a sheath. Go for a less classic one (fun color or print, or cropped, or no buttons) if you want to appear less corporate.
Eta: I like the shrug too provided it hits at a cropped point on you. On me most store bought shrugs are too long.

The lace shrug looks good. I guess even a sleeveless vest would be good. I personally don't like cardigans as much so I would rate them as the last option.

I wear a shrug with my sheath dress. Sally at Already Pretty recently did a round up of 'dress-length ' (shorter length) sweaters that you might find helpful.

For a dressier events I wear a cropped blazer or a silky black cocoon over my sheath, though I don't wear it often; I've been thinking about picking up a cropped sequin bomber or something as well. For more casual events I wear a cropped blazer, cropped moto (denim for summer), or cropped denim jacket. I like the shrug you linked, it looks great for hot weather too.

Glory, I like the lacey one (potentially) but it wouldn't be much help against air conditioning, if that is an issue.

For casual, I always wear a cropped denim jacket with my sheath dresses. But that won't help for the graduation.

For dressier events, I have a kimono jacket (bought on consignment) or I wear a short blazer (when I have such a thing, which is not always.) Sometimes I just wear my longer blazer and try to own the look.

Do you still have the kimono from Zara? That might look good over a black sheath! And it covers a multitude of sins -- a nice bonus.

I wear a the following over sheath styles

Blazer
Sequinned cardigan, probably not the most on trend but still a good option
Black crop jacket

I also have a kimono that could work, but not with any of my current sheaths!

there are so many styles that work as toppers for a sheath. My favorites (besides a denim or leather jacket) are kimono style jackets and a lace bomber jacket. if you go with black with the black dress, you might try a different texture from the dress. the lace would do that.

That topper is really cute. I'm tempted to buy one! I'm not sure where you're located and whether the graduation is indoors or outdoors, but either way, it could be very warm and I think you'd be very comfortable with that topper versus a blazer or sweater.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I love the idea of a lace bomber or a kimono style. I no longer have the Zara Kimono as I gave it to a friend since I wasn't getting much wear of it.
I will try the one I linked to and also continue my hunt.
