Hi everyone,
Thanks so much for replying, and my apologies that a busy few days have left my so long to get back to you
slim cat - it's cold weather here, so my shown examples will be based on that (though I'll take note of summer suggestions for later, though wearing velvet in summer does seem a bit strange) I like your suggestion of a skirt tied around the waist - as it would help with the tucking in problem. And I'll keep trying all my blouses and as you suggest, maybe one will be lightweight enough to work
Angie - thanks for going to all the trouble of posting your tops. Your post on tulle skirts were an incentive for me to go and get one!
Sal - thanks for the compliment. I feel tucked works well in terms of vertical proportions, but I'm also sensitive to the broadening look of the relatively light coloured waist band. Thanks for posting your top pictures too.
Rachy - yes. The sweater is welted. I wish it wasn't v neck though and so would never have purchased it for that reason (it was handed down to me)
Nikki - thanks
Column - another votes for shirts tied at waist - I'll definitely have to try this suggestion.
Jules and unfrumped - I understand how much better I'd look with the sleeves pulled up - but I really hate the feeling of it - for the same reason I don't like 3/4 length sleeves. But I can give it a try!
I do love that look of a cropped top too Jules, but not really sure if I'm brave enough! I did wear my cropped one recently to a pilates class and I was rather aghast! Mind you, if I'm not bending over etc that might be better.
Unfrumped I have some chunky, boxy sweaters so I'll post some picture with them at some point
Suntiger - yes I see the appeal. I tried the pleated skirt over a nighty that I use as a slip, and it actually looked pretty good, apart from the bra strap showing and being a little more revealing than I'm up for. So for summer that could work
Jenni - I had this amazing cropped lace sleeveless top a while ago that I could winterfy by wearing over a long sleeve top. I know it would have looked good because it looked good over another pleated skirt. But I have lost it!! But yes, I'll look out for more - and in fact I have a cropped weater I bought this year that I wore it out with yesterday - see pics below.
SF yes I know the tee with skirt look that you mean and would like to try it (though I'm perpetually short on tees I like) I am concerned about the look below the waist though as even a quite lightweight close added lines. But your suggestions reminded me that I have a cropped pink tee and I'll try that with it.
The tulle skirt is fine for our winter, with tights probably. Not sure if it will be too hot for our summers - I find it hard to remember the sensation of a season I'm not in right now!
Here's the outfit I wore yesterday - cropped pink sweater with soft moto style jacket. (Note: DH says my head looks bigger than it really is in this angle)
Working through all these suggestions has given me lots of ideas, so when I can line up a moment with a photograph I'll post some more.
