Top for holiday party

Thinking of pairing Eileen Fisher crepe straight pants with SOMETHING for a December holiday party. (Does that make sense?). And if so, what to pair them with? I don’t want to be too hot — sweaters tend to be too much for me in these environments. I’m a 5’4” pear - age mid 60s. Usually a size 4 or 6 in a top. And I will likely have to wear a flat black shoe. Options online are overwhelming. Would love some guidance from you amazing ladies! TIA!

Although, I see those are stretchy pull-on pants. You might like the two together. The top I'm suggesting is great with structured bottoms.

Go to a nice thrift store. They probably have lots of sparkly tops that will work with your pants, and not be too warm. I used to have a couple of dressy events annually and I found great things inexpensively. I think the donors had only wore them once or twice.

I love a sparkly top myself for that type of event and usually have at least one in the wardrobe. If you don’t already have anything I like the thrift store idea or Angie’s idea, which I think would still work beautifully with those pants.
I remember a Christmas event when I was working overseas (England) in 2002 and a work colleague asked if I was sorted for something to wear. I said- “Yes- well, black pants and a sparkly top” and she said “I think that’s what we’re all wearing!”
That was 23 years ago when I was 41 and now I’m 64! I can report it was a fun night back then and I looked totally appropriate!

Talbots has some fun tops with sequins this year. The green sequin velvet might be fun. And I like the sequin tank options because you can layer them with various toppers to get the warmth level you want

Last year I bought a half sleeve, dark red, print velvet top for a friend's annual Christmas party. It was just the right weight, dressy but not fussy, and goes with half a dozen bottoms in my closet. You might try Googling the key elements of what you're looking for; sleeve length, textile, color, and see what you wind up with.

THANK YOU for such great suggestions, wonderful ladies! That Lauren top is lovely, Angie! And I love the thoughts about sparkly tops. I think that’s more towards where I’m thinking — if I can find something that doesn’t look cheap...

My first stop last week was actually at a VERY high-end CONSIGNMENT shop, but the pricepoints were higher than what I wanted to pay. And while the pieces they suggested were really elegant, I wasn’t feeling all that “festive” in them. I seldom spend as much on pants as I did on these EF pants, which I figured are an investment. But I don’t want to spend a lot on the top, since I so seldom dress up. I really need to find a decent thrift shop. In the mean time:

I just stumbled on these in “navy,”(I’m partial to blues ) surprisingly at Kohls online. Not sure what the quality will be though. Plus, I might be too old and “hippy” to wear something this short with these slim pants. Could I wear it with a wide-leg black pant instead?

Silk pussy bow top, any color. Or sleeveless sparkly sweater, like the one I just bought from CK. Flats--so many cute Mary Janes these days. I might opt for one that is not black, like metallic or animal. But if you do black, any shoe in patent looks great.

Oh I love the brighter sparkly ones from Kohl’s! Prices seem reasonable to me (but I live in New Zealand where most clothing costs more). I really like the Isaac Mizrahi one from E-bay too.

Jenni, thanks for your thoughts! On closer inspection of the Isaac Mizrahi (QVC) top, I walked away from it. Great price and design, but I didn’t love the fabric up close. And yes, Kohls’ prices are VERY reasonable. I ended up ordering the sequin tee. Because I waited too long, some of the colors were sold out. I ordered it in the navy, which I do like.. Not sure how it will look on me. Ordered both small and medium since lower pricepoints can run small. Hopefully, it will arrive in the next few days!

So grateful to all of you for your thoughts here! At 5’4” and my weight, I know I can’t pull off the model’s length. I need to iron the pants, since they were folded in a package for who knows how long. I’m happy to know you think the length is ok at the moment. Happy Thanksgiving to all!!
