Top for a summer skirt

I have had this skirt for 9 years, and worn it only 3 or 4 times. I've kept it because I think it's so pretty. It's white linen with a cottage garden effect of flowers at the hem. The top I wore with it previously now looks dated (no surprise!), and I have been trying to find a new option.

This top is a bright coral, layered to give a soft look. It will be easy to wear for work and I love the colour. Can I get it to work with the skirt?
If not, what sort of top should I look for? As you can imagine, I haven't had any success in previous years.

Otherwise, given I haven't worn the skirt much, should I just give it away and move on? It's been a happy choice for High Teas and christenings in the past.

Thanks, Lyn and CocoCat. Somehow it looks better to me in the photo than it did in real life, too. I'm very happy with the colour, less sure about the cross-over drape of the top over the skirt. But if it looks ok, I'm happy!

I think the colors go well and I think you could add accents to make the look more complete. How about a thin white belt over your natural waist, or wearing a longish white or floral necklace?

Only 3/4 wears in 9 years make me think: are you sure that this skirt makes you happy? It is nice and in my opinion it goes well with the coral top, but from my personal experience I know that when I wear a piece of clothing so rarely there is something wrong ...

I agree with Sisi, there's probably a reason why you didn't wear it more often. I'm not sure if it's the angle, but my first thought was that the top is too long. What kind of waistband is there? Can you tuck something in? If the waist is elasticated you could try a shorter boxy top with it. Or maybe a shorter top with a banded hem?

I also like the colour of the top with the skirt, but, like Astrid, was thinking that it may be a tad too long to wear untucked. How do you feel about tucking into the skirt.
I also second Astrid's suggestions for a shorter boxy top or something with a banded hem.

I really like the top, but see it as being a little too long for the skirt. The top would look great with pants though or even shorts.

I struggle with these types of skirts too. In an ideal world I would wear a fitted tank, but often that is not flattering on me - but I think it would be on you. Or a top that just sits on the waistband, not cropped but not long either.

I have one or two pieces like this that I only rarely wear, but that do come in handy every year or two.

Sisi and Astrid, I am sure I'd wear it more if I had the right top ; ) I am reminded of Angie's words about how easily skirts can become orphans.
Inge, yes the top is too long, but I've never found anything shorter, so far. Maybe I need to look in a "younger" shop for the boxy shapes,
The waist is plain, a zip and no waistband or elastic. I could tuck, but not this top as it has the cross over fabric.
Sally thanks for suggesting a tank top. I will give that a try. I could live without this skirt, but it would be nice to wear it.
