Too many zippers?

I am obsessed with zippers but I'm afraid I'm getting a little bit too obsessed. I have zippers on my leggings, exposed zips on three of my dresses, and zipper decorations on bags and now shoes as well! I need some guidance on how much zipper is too much for an outfit. Does the hardware have to match? My GR dress has a gold zip but most of my other zippers are silver. My Asos dress has a black zipper that is more subtle so maybe that can be worn with other zipper embellishments.

I just bought these shoes and would love to wear them with that dress but I think it might be a bit wacky:

I'm obsessed with zippers too, and have been that way since the 80's. I *just* bought a neon green zipper handbag.

Love the shoes. Need to stock up on zippered items while they are available. It could all change next season.

If the zippers are the same metal, the shoes could work with the zipper dress if you add another texture somewhere. I fully intend to sport my new zipper handbag with zipper leggings - but I'll add another texture or few textures into the ensemble.

Your bag sounds delightful Angie. I didn't even remember to mention my zipper headband...and my moto jackets that are full of hardware...

I'll be sad when the zipper craze is over, if only because half my wardrobe will be dated. Sigh.

Ok, I shall stick to my Brulees and Smooches when wearing the GR dress. But I think I can wear these shoes with the Asos dress since the zipper isn't as much of a statement.

I'm not sure how easy it will be to add texture in the summer. Perhaps I'm just not inventive enough? Usually when I think of adding texture, I think of belts, hose, and layers, which are not ideal in hot weather. I guess for one season I can stick to wearing one zippered item at a time...but the temptation is strong!

Another zipperhead here. (There was a famous punk clothing store in Philadelphia called Zipperhead.)

I think the risk of doing too many zippers at once is that it could start looking like a costume, but of course the question is exactly what number crosses the "too many" line.

Textures for summer: jewelry and handbag come to mind, as well as some sort of jacket or wrap for indoors. How ridiculous and wasteful that we must bundle up inside in the summer!

Regarding texture, I think that boots and shoes with cut-outs are a good idea for summer, especially when it's not very hot.

Did I mention that I love zippers too? When I have to choose between zippers and buttons, the former always wins.

Maya - my obsession has been studs and it's the same question when too many things have studs, what can you put together! I love zippers too so have to be veeerry careful.

Too bad there can't be some simple way of determining the hardware threshold of a complete outfit. . . because I'm sure *my* threshold is artifically high :-\

I think I prefer to keep that sort of detail to one item. I love studs but usually if I'm wearing my studded cuff then I won't use my studded bag as the 2 items would be too close together, my exception is if there is a big gap between the items. If I had studded shoes I'd feel OK wearing them with the cuff as there would be other things in between and the cuff is fairly small i don't think I'd do shoes and bag with studs (not sure if that's any help or more confusing it made sense in my head!!!) x

Maybe it should be like the 'flop proof ' guidelines of wearing only one animal print at a time, one moto-inspired item, one fringed item, or one ruffled item, etc.

Oh my god, MNsara, mine has been studs too. I've gotten ready to go out to school MANY times this year and realized I was wearing studded boots, a studded jacket, and a studded belt before I was like, O-KAY, take one piece off.

Ok, so I'm not the only one who is addicted to hardware and therefore runs the risk of looking like a cyborg....good to know!

I guess it depends on the color, scale, and number of zippers. The zipper on the GR dress is more of a statement than it is on my Uniqlo or Asos dress, so I probably won't mix in other zippers with that dress. But with the other two I think I could get away with another zipper detail elsewhere. I've never been a flop proof kind of person so why start now!
