Tolerance for lint?

Recently, Anchie posted about tolerance for wrinkles. I think I'm in the middle there -- I am no fastidious. I like to start fresh and ironed (or ironed-looking) but am usually happy to let things settle and wrinkle somewhat over the day. And I am one of those people who enjoys ironing, although I do it much less than I used to. As I result, I am really happy when I discover things that don't wrinkle, especially when they travel wrinkle-free.

But what about lint? My black wide leg crops from Anthropologie (last year) are a thick cotton with a lot of structure but a kind of felty soft nap, and the surface picks up and holds lint like nobody's business. I wore them for work last week and while I liked how the outfit looked, I hated what happened to the pants very quickly - I picked up everything! I'm seriously considering letting them go. (Note: I have washed the pants several times and worn them several times. I've noticed it before and been annoyed, but since it was a work situation I was really annoyed.)

What is your tolerance for this and/or way of dealing with it?

No tolerance I would say. Many years ago I had a beautiful night-blue silk velvet suit that I liked very much but attracted lint like crazy. I carefully brushed it before leaving the house and after an hour it was covered with lint! I just stopped wearing it. The same happened with another black suit and a pair of black velvet pants. Since then I carefully avoid all what seems to be a lint magnet.

But I have a good tolerance for pet hair ...

I'm not fond of lint at all. I'm constantly purchasing tape lint rollers when I see them on sale at the grocery store. They recently had giant ones in three packs and I stocked up! I am on lint patrol!

High tolerance for wrinkles, ZERO tolerance for lint! It drives me bats!

(I have an equally low tolerance for animal hair)

Previous lifestyle: in work or high social situations, zero tolerance. Worked with a few characters whose tolerance was even lower, and were dramatic about it, but I'd need more coffee in me to tell those stories.

Current: still zero, just lower-maintenance ways of achieving that.

Those are lovely trousers. Sadly, it seems any surface treatment that would successfully reduce lint adhering would also ruin the soft nap.

Lint is gross. Esp at work. But at home I have a high tolerance for it. As a preppy, you just have to accept at some level - because what the heck, in for a penny in for a pound. You're not true prep without dog hair, clawed upholstery, and gnawed furniture legs.

Although, it has to be said, Lilypup does NOT pull her weight when it comes to chewing on grandma's chair legs...

I have a medium tolerance for lint I guess. Those pants seem bad though!

I don't mind lint rolling before I go out the door but wouldn't want to it to accumulate during the day.

Low tolerance, and a dog-owner. It only really bothers me on solid black. I've been gravitating towards heathers and tweeds for this very reason. And I like Rachylou's lint-prep connection. Makes sense to me.

I have returned pants and jackets that pick up more lint than I expect and don't lint-roll well. What I really dislike is lint-magnet denim. There's no excuse for that!

I think dog lint is a bit easier than cat lint... those tiny little cat hairs just weave themselves into everything. And cats like to sleep in the dresser drawers.

I hate discovering it on me once I've left the house and am in bright sunlight. I feel messy and poorly groomed. That said, I am likely a major offender as I have a big fluffy Norwegian Forest cat who leaves hair around like tumbleweeds on an abandoned Western movie set. I know exactly what you mean about these pants - I have a pair from BR in that fabric and the only thing saving them is that they are navy, which seems to blur the lint a little.

Oh man, I hate lint. Two of my R13 jeans have a coating that attracts everything and I'm always attacking them with a tape roller. And I really need to dry mop my house more often- there's cat hair everywhere. But I can't avoid it, with all black clothes, so I just hope it's less visible from a distance.

Next time I'm getting a black cat. What were we thinking??

My partner also wears all black and the cat sits on him for an extensive farewell scritch every morning. He's always running out the door to teach covered in cat hair... and he gets prickly when I offer him the roller. But I think the image of a gothy college professor covered in cat hair is adorable, at least!

No tolerance for lint or finding white hair ( fuzzy mostly white dog's, DH's or my own!) on nappy dark clothing. A tight weave with a sheen or leather is the way to go if a tumble in a no-heat set dryer with a polyester cloth won't remove it, the item goes into the donation bag.

No tolerance! We have two furry cats, so cat hair is always an issue. Beyond that--laundry lint! And environmental lint! Some fibers seem to fair better than others. I just bought a pair of cotton twill pants that I probably won't even wear a second time due to this issue.

lisp! Norwegian Forest Cat! I love them and was seriously considering the breed. Then, however, I spied a Ragdoll that reminded me of my previous cat and now I have two Ragdolls.

None! It feels dirty to me. I have a pair of black cigarette pants that are perfect except that they attract lint like crazy. I'm looking for their replacement.

Hmm, I feel like I am tolerant toward it because I can't really think of an instance where it has been a problem. Maybe I have just been lucky enough to not have items that attract it lately.

I hate lint on my clothes -- and I hate dog hair on them even more. I have a very sheddy mostly white dog -- and I have a ton of those tape lint rollers -- in the bedroom, the mudroom, etc.

I'm pretty much of a lint, pilling, and pet fur terminator. Like a monkey, I'm always picking it off when I see it. It drives me nuts, and I have every kind of remover ever invented (anyone remember the Miracle Brush? I still have mine.)

No tolerance at all. I culled more items that I want to admit because they were lint magnets. I keep lint rollers everywhere, in my closet, in my office desk drawer, in the entryway of my apartment for last brush before leaving, a small sized one in the handbag.. I was the happiest when I finally found black winter wool coat that is not attracting lint.

It's so funny how many of us hate lint and also have white pets. Seriously! Gluttons for punishment!!!!

Well, thank you for the commiseration, oh wise sisterhood. And thank you, Anchie, for -- deliberately or not -- condoning my possible consigning of these pants. I'm not sure I can live with feeling like a lifesize lint roller (or Xtabay's Miracle Brush!).

Ha, I never noticed much lint on my clothes until my daughter's arrival four months ago - those little terry onesies shed lint like crazy! But so far, I haven't purged anything for that reason - one black dress comes to mind that might be a candidate, but I'd need to find a suitable replacement first . . . until then, I just keep a lint-roller handy!

Very low tolerance for lint. Even in the store, if I see lint collecting on an item that I was considering...back it goes on the rack.

Ditto what AJ just posted. No tolerance whatsoever, and I try not to buy lint-collecting clothes. I also divide my laundry to avoid lint getting on my clothes.

None. I have a lint roller in the car, one in my desk and a bag of them in the coat closet, primed to roll anyone who needs it before they leave the house.

Those pants are gorgeous but the lint would make me unhappy.

my otherwise perfect-fitting and favorite wool coat is a lint trap. I hate it. I go through lint rollers like crazy. this is a GREAT forum topic, because it's clear this is something we all tolerate and are annoyed by to varying degrees.

It would drive me crazy to wear black pants that attracted lint. I'm like AJ--have put items back on the rack if I've noticed lint on them (usually it happens with sweaters).

Zero tolerance. I will not buy anything that looks linty in the store, because it always gets worse in real life!

On further thought, I recall that I've rejected sweaters when I've seen that they CAUSE lint, rather than attract it. You know, when the item hanging next to the sweater on the rack or in the dressing room is looking fuzzy? Ack--no-go!

Well, I'm down to only one pair of maternity pants, because my black pair collects lint and I can't stand how it looks. The lint roller just can't keep up with them. Wrinkles are ok.

Tolerant when at home but no tolerance for leaving the house covered with lint or pet fur. We have three cats and lint rollers all over the house. I would not enjoy wearing clothing that attracted lint in public places. Blech.

High tolerance for wrinkles but zero tolerance for lint. With two dogs, I am always taking a lint roller to de-lint something. It drives me bats!
