to wear in transit - YouLookFab Forum

I was in a store and the woman suggested I need a travelling outfit... remembering its more than 24 hours in transit to Europe etc. She suggested a long tunic top with my soft waist slim pants I already own... dressy pjs to travel in. Her piece was quite expensive and while it was nice certainly not ppp. But this idea is in my head now and my tshirt with the pants does require a jacket etc to hide the bulges... i found this 'dress' today at a much more acceptable price point and i like how it looked. On the plus side this is dressy travel pjs which i would be happy to meet work colleague, new people at the other. On theother side this brand has a pretty high polyester content aka will it smell wearing for up to 24 hours, and I dont usually wear this style of long tunic and slim pants. I did like it on me though. Should I get it?oh and they have a great easy to wear necklace which looked great with it and I wouldnt need to fretabout it being precious... what do u think?

I like the idea of it, Jen - certainly the idea of loose unstructured yet good looking clothes for the plane makes so much sense! I worry that the pattern might be too large a scale? It depends on your height, I expect, which I am afraid I have forgotten...

I think the pattern is good for hiding stains - my #1 concern when I am travelling :p

I am 5 9 and size 16 so people dont usually mess w me so the scale is good for me... i can pop the pink coat over it when i get to ny and in ottawa... good point though Suz!

I'm with suz --- I think the idea of a shorter dress or tunic over slim pants is fab --- you can even layer a waterfall cardi or jacket over top of it (I did last week). What about a solid? Something that would be easily remixable. You could always travel with a patterned scarf or pashmina for pattern and warmth.

Jen I adore the pattern. If you can wear this scale pattern go for it. I think this is a brilliant travel outfit. Comfy AND chic. May I ask where the tunic is from ... Please:)

Mysize... i dont often buy from plus size stores as i am borderline but this fits the bill. Its v polyester though... my biggest concern that it will get smelly... j

They have lovely garments Jen:). I think it depends on the fabric. Some poly fabrics are really good and wear like better quality fabrics. It's hard to know.

Poly doesn't breathe so it might get stinky sooner than a cotton blend would. On the plus side, it won't wrinkle as easily as cotton will. You could wear a t-shirt or dress shields (do they still make those?) under it to absorb any odors.

As someone who used to travel a lot for work and travel far, hello 33 hr flight travel times to Asia with coworkers, I'm more of a fan of the natural fabrics. So the cardigan wrap is something I employ, I rarely wear elastic pants but here I got dress pants (wool) with an elastic waist, wear a knit shell and throw on a cardigan for warmth. Also, feet swell on a flight that long so wear shoes that are comfy and uh, wide enough. I couldn't put my boots on after a long flight onetime until the swelling subsided.

Did you ever watch Meg Ryan in French Kiss? That would be my ideal travelling outfit. She wore jeans on the bottom, then had a white tank, under a white button down, with a vest/waistcoat over the top, and finally, a blazer over the top. She peeled off layers and alternated what she was wearing throughout the film, but managed to look stunning the entire time (of course, that had nothing to do with the hair and makeup crew on standby!!).

My suggestion would be jeans or pants, with a tshirt and jacket/cardigan depending on what you prefer. I'd also carry a spare tshirt in my carryon luggage to change into prior to landing, so that I felt a little fresher. I find the temperature on a plane can fluctuate greatly too - from very hot, to freezing cold, so layers are always great! I'd add in a scarf which can double up as a small blanket too!

I should also add - I love the tunic/dress with leggings option for traveling too, and I think it would be great to take with you, but I think the polyester content could make it smelly (and an alternative if your carryon could be bulky), so I'd keep it as an easy-wear item for your travels.

I really like this for you Jen. Is it the sort of thing you might like to have in your wardrobe regardless? If so, I'd buy it and give it a test drive at home to see how your body reacts to the poly. They *do* still make dress shields; I happened upon some disposable ones at my local 99 Cent store. The upside of a polyester tunic is that it will look amazing upon your arrival (and wash out in a hotel sink and dry in a jiffy). Can you imagine what linen would look like after 24 hours on an airplane, lol? I'm curious to see what you think of this silhouette on you, since you said it's not something already in your wardrobe. I imagine you could carry off the print quite well, although I'd have to see pictures. Ahem.

I really like the tunic leggings idea for a long day of travel and I think the one in the picture is really cute . I do share your concerns about the polyester fabric. Its hard to say - some poly blends are pretty nice but some are awful! It is amazing the low quality of some fabric and price point doesn't seem to matter. I've seen $150 shirts made of just horrible fabric. When I'm shopping a rack of clothes a lot of times I'll start by running my fingers across items so that if the fabric is bad I don't waste my time pulling them out to look at them. To me if the fabric looks cheap, the look is ruined.

Oh and by the way, I'm so envious of your upcoming trip to Europe. Have fun!

Thanks everyone. This is quite ok quality poly - I have had a few pieces from this place before and the quality is good at a reasonable price. I guess I am just cautious as I have a very poly nightdress I bought at JC Pennies in the US about 2 years ago... looks fab and wraps into a tiny ball but it needs washing every day whereas my closer fitting mix pjs and tops can go 4 or 5 days travelling... I guess I could get it and if its no go then it wont come on the trip and its a lesson learnt... I had a good look around at longer tunic tops with reasonable necklnes etc so they look something at the other end and its hard to find!

Anna and Kalli - you identify my usual travel wear so great minds think alike!... I have put on some weight so the top and pants tend to be a bit 'short' and the tummy/bot is a bit poky and I would wear a jacket... This is what I already had out to wear...
Oh only 3 weeks to go... am I excited?!?!??!

And Karie I have several travel days - not as long as that but some places I am looking forward to sitting on a train all day etc etc...

I like the idea but I think the fabric would not be the best for non-stop wear.
