To get or not to get?

Hi Ladies!

I'm in a bit of dilemma. I've been eyeing this skirt for a long time and was so happy it finally went on sale! I always ask myself questions before I make a purchase and I've evaluated it carefully. It seems there's not much an issue about the longevity or mileage of this skirt.

My only concern (and it's a rather major one) is its length. The model wearing the skirt is 175 cm/5'9" and I'm 157cm/5'1". That's a difference of 18cm and the skirt hits her at her knee which is the sweet spot. If I were to get this skirt, I'll have to alter it. But I'm not sure if it'll still look good after alteration.

I'm 5'1", petite and I have a pear shaped body. My question to ask is, to get or not to get?

Cool skirt! I think that's just a circle skirt, which shouldn't be that hard to hem shorter. I think it would probably retain a very similar shape, too.

I think you should try it. It's supposed to be a midi, which I think of as hitting a few inches below the knee (so on the model it looks a bit short).

Hopefully some of those who know about such things can address the alterations questions (difficulty, how much will it change it, etc) I vote order, try it out, pin it up and see how it looks. I can see why you've stalked it. It's a great skirt.

Midis can be tricky. Are you good with tucking AND wearing high heeled nude pumps? It doesn't specify the length, could be really long.

Refugee's suggestion of buying it and pinning it up to see how you like the new silhouette is a great one.

That would be a piece of cake to hem at a different length.

I don't know that it's the skirt for you. I'm 5'2" and I think you could shorten it just fine but it is also very full from the start. There is a lot of bulk around the mode'ls middle. I don't known if that would make a difference to you. I am mainly hourglass and petite and for me it would be too full.

I've checked out the skirt and I can see the appeal. Its lovely. But there are two issues for you to consider. One is that a circular hem is really, and I mean really difficult to take up, especially if it's been cut on the bias. The other issue is that with such a full skirt, if you have a high hip the skirt will billow away from the waist and not have long enough on your 5'1"" to come back in again, ie the cheerleader effect. Sorry to be so negative but I have just finished sewing a full skirted dress so these problems are fresh in my mind. I'll be keen to hear what others say.
