I am testing out an outfit idea for my first day of work at a new store - wanted to make a good impression by wearing some Nordies items (blazer and skirt). Is this too much drama for a first day? I've got metallic in the blazer, sporty hoodie layered under, and a hi-low top.

When I visited the store, I noticed some SAs dressed with kind of a similar vibe, but they were men, and I think they worked Savvy. I didn't see the POV/Narrative SA to compare. The store, I did notice we have a good amount of artsy looks - colorblocked b/w hair, a gal in shoes who dresses very Helmut Lang/Rick Owens with lots of slouchy black.

Anyway... TMGO?

While I love the colors together, I have to concede that I think there's too much layering on top. What does the outfit look like without the hoodie?

Hm - I think the hoodie kind of detracts from the look. I love the colours, but how the hoodie layers looks a bit contrived to me with the button up shirt and the blazer. Skirt and boots look awesome.

I think it's too much. Too many things with different styles and I'm not sure they play nice together. I think if I were looking for someone to help me pick my clothes, I'd want someone with taste I could relate to, and I - personally - don't relate to this outfit.

I like the bottom. But the shiny jacket over the hoodie over the unusual shirt is clashing texturally and stylistically to me.

I love the outfit and the concept, but would skip the hoodie. After you have assessed in person how SAs there dress then you can add extra flair like that.

Thanks, ladies. I think you have just confirmed what I knew in my gut. Maybe I don't have to wear the jacket and skirt at the same time... this particular jacket is a little hard to wear because I have to wear it over long sleeves or the lining sticks to my arm. Will try some other things today.

How about a black longsleeved shirt under the blazer? Or is that too casual...do you need to wear blouses?

Great advice as usual, I personally err on the side of boring, when I go somewhere I am not familiar with, dress code wise.

I think one of the items needs to drop out - either jacket or hoodie. It's a great edgy look but a little TMGO until you know more about the dress situation.

I missed your other thread. Congratulations on the job. I shop lots in this department and would just love an SA like you. I depend on them especially for fitting jeans but ours don't seem to get sizing up or the boyfriend yet.

Love how you've made the outfit so very you with the addition of the hoodie. You look amazing. On day one, I would err on the side of leaving it out, just to get the best feel of your new environment. Best wishes in your new role!

Ceit, I will try the blazer with my black pullover next. Hopefully it isn't too dark - man, I am kicking myself for not getting the cream version when I still worked at The Rack.

The jacket makes such a strong statement, I would not dilute it with the hoodie. The lines clash, to my eye. Take off the hoodie, or replace it with a sleeker layer, and you're good to go!

I like your look, minue the hoodie layer underneath and only because your jacket is already taking centerstage along with the boots. Even without that layer, you would still look edgy! Congratulations on your new job!

Awesome... I will try to keep the basic luck with the Blazer, but I will have to change the shirt underneath. It is sleeveless and I need sleep with this jacket unfortunately.

I love this outfit, personally. The layered greens over white, the dark skirt, the flash of white at your wrist with your watch.

I have to admit, tho, that my impression is that Nordie's personnel dress extremely neutrally. The nod to fashion is polish, not flare.

I'm not sure that there is a lot going on. It pops to me -- the only color here is that lovely emerald, all the rest of them are neutrals. The proportions work for me. Oddly the only issue I have is with the collar -- it seems out of place. Otherwise I actually like it because it seems to push the envelope on proportions in an accessible way.

I think you already decided but I would also drop the hoodie and I would wear a black henley under the jacket to let it pop and help your arm situation. It is odd that it sticks, why is it? Is the material sticky somehow? It looks like a jacket Una posted a while back that I almost ordered.

I can't decide if all black plus the dark green jacket is too heavy and wintry?

I also tried this and liked it, but now I'm second-guessing wondering if it is too summery? I'd swap out the engineer boots fot the ponyhair booties, as the ones pictured feel too heavy.

Can you tell I'm nervous??

This is perfect Rae! Go with this second outfit with the calf hair booties. It is not too summery at all!

How exciting, and you don't have to wear jeans! At first I was wondering if you had to work in a white shirt and black bottoms somehow, but the latest outfit (perfect!) tells me that is not the case. Have fun and do try a hoodie under a blazer again, sometime, somewhere. I love that look and you have just what it takes to pull it off.

I'm not real good at this either, as I need help myself. Although, a picture is worth 1,000 words. I think the coloring looks great as well. I'm not so sure about the hoodie though. I think it takes away from the look of the outfit. Something just doesn't seem right about it. I think take off the hoodie, keep the rest and see how that looks
