Great thread- I have only been in a couple of these stores but it is fascinating to read Different perspectives.

Whenever I have gone to stores like those I've discovered that I can find great deals on items such as jackets and jeans, however don't usually end up seeing anything else worth buying like I would in a department store or small fashion retail chain. Like others have said, they may not be good when looking for something specific, but rather to expand one's wardrobe a little on a limited budget.

Late to the discussion, but I am a bargain shopper. I shop offprice, but selectively as it has changed over the years. I like the thrill of the bargain which means a better quality item at a discounted price (like when Marshall's began), NOT in merchandise that is specifically manufactured for the off price store (or "factory" stores which I despise because they seem to make cheaper versions of the real items). I like TJ Maxx (and their sister stores) most for home items, but on occasion have gotten amazing deals on designer bags, but you have to work harder to find things. I just don't have that time (and it's easier to search and sort online). I like the Rack most for offprice clothing shopping probably because much of it is from the stores (although they now have much more that seems straight to the Rack, it used to only be the "W" items that were warehouse). I do have a few Marshalls and TJ Maxx's nearby that carry higher end items and if I'm there I'll stop in, but I find better deals online through use of sales and coupons.

Although it's been a long time since I've had success at these stores, about 5-6 years ago I bought a number of Calvin Klein dresses and one perfect black sheath dress that continue to be workhorses in my professional wardrobe.
