You have killer style!

That coat! That bag! Oh, and then at $14.99 scarf is the thing that pulls it all together!
Could you come down here for a few weeks and teach me how to dress?
And wear makeup?
Please!!

This outfit is everything! Mission accomplished. I have to say that I like the way the subtle distressing and let down hem on these jeans adds a texture to the outfit. It doesn't distract but rather keeps it real, totally you, totally chic. But I get that you are over rips and let down hems. Hmmm, perhaps a great forum topic in itself?

Also:
-I WANT that scarf.
-Best fitting EF coat I've seen, like it was made for you!

Lisa you look fab and I love the stripes on stripes effect! I wish I could see your mascara better - I've been wearing the blue for maybe a year now and love it. I only apply to my top lashes. Do you do both top and bottom?

I really like the stripes on stripes.

Wow, I love the mix of stripes with the bag -- fun and subtle. The sweater with coat look and sneakers is amazing on you. Seriously , it is warm enough for bare ankles? You are kidding! Still cold here (though today is supposed to be wet). Though maybe I am a wimp when it comes to foot warmth. That is possible.

I really love both outfits on you and I am loving your red hair.

Great outfit! I am not much of a stripe-wearer either but this looks fab. Love that coat! Personally I still like the holes/raw hems in jeans (although not for work) but I don't really care for the extreme ones, you know with rips all along the width of the leg. Not a good look for me.

This is really terrific! I agree, it's the scarf that pulls it all together. But I like the stripes, too. And you're encouraging me to try blue mascara as well.

Chalk up another who really, really doesn't get this preppy thing. What it is, if it's good or bad, or why people have such strong reactions to such a basic thing as stripes on a top. :p

Ginger - thanks for the nice words, and re: the preppy bit? Perhaps it's a generational thing too - for those of us who grew up in the 70's .

Suz - I think you're a bit of a wimp, yes It's not like I'm going for a walk like this. I'm going from car to building - not a big deal. Plus, I've decided sneakers look funny with socks when one is wearing cropped jeans . Lol. It was above 0 yesterday

Donna - good point about the blue mascara on the bottom lashes bit. I don't always put mascara on my bottom lashes , and when I tried with the blue it looked really weird and alien-isa. So I added a bit of black at the outer corners to beef it up and cover some of the blue.

Colette and Robin - thank you Another forum topic indeed.

Kerry - what line are you talking about? Joie?

Bijou - I'm smiling at your "compliments from children" comment. My daughter is a 21 year-old "makeup maven" and tells ME what to do.. She is so skilled at makeup it is frightening. All these years I thought she was just lying in bed being a lazy teenager, she was watching You Tube videos on applying makeup . She grabbed my shoulder with one hand, my chin with another and turned my face into the light to examine my mascara (she's also 4 inches taller ). I now use her cast-off makeup , or "borrow" things I want to try rather than the other way around. She's introduced me to a few brands I had no experience with - it's been interesting .

I like the stripes! You look very chic.
I am unsure about frayed hems: I now like the look better than a hemmed seam, but am still not convinced they're Ok at work.

You may BE a suburban mom but I think it would be impossible for you to look like one -- except maybe the most rocking, chic suburban mom ever.

Lisa, great outfit. I agree with an earlier comment that this light camel coat really softens up the boldness of the stripes. This is a look to repeat!

For those in other countries who don't know about preppy - dig up the old movie "Love Story"....

Lisa, you totally made this work. You look gorgeous! Love everything about this look, and you are rocking that blue mascara. So fab!

Yes. Sorry, I wasn't at all clear ...

Kerry - I did a quick google search and see that Saks and Nordstrom carry the line. It's also shown on the Hudson Bay website. I picked it up at a local indie boutique (funny, today I'm wearing another piece from that line) .

I'm another one that doesn't get preppy. Great outfit! I love the double stripes.

I'm always looking for jeans without distressing or holes. I don't wear jeans enough to have both weekend and weekday jeans. My jeans need to be able to do double duty and be worn to work on casual days which means no distressing.

Hi name twin *waves* Anyway, this is a fun outfit, I like the pattern mixing of the stripes with the bag.

Like it all you should have your own blog.

Gorgeous! So much inspiration for me....that top is a really different and cool interpretations of the striped look. Love those sneakers! I never got ON the distressed, destroyed, released bandwagon to begin with and I'm pretty glad I didn't

Yes! This is how to wear stripes and not look preppy! I suffer from that same fear. I'm totally going to try this!

Wow, what a great outfit!

I share your ambivalence toward stripes -- I certainly don't have a preppy look, and with a bust, they're even more problematic. And yet --- they are such an easy way to brighten a casual wardrobe.

What you've done here is awesome -- the mixed stripes make a bolder statement, the sneaks keep it real, the EF gives a bit of luxe, and the earrings a bit of glam.

Thank you so much ladies - it's nice to get such great feedback on an outfit that was an experiment. You can bet I'll wearing it again !

Well, you had me at striped sweater-ish thing. Not preppy, but French chic. The stripes-on-stripes is genius (or just savant?).

I can't really tell your mascara is blue in the pic, but your eye make up is fab! And the outfit is super cute. The way you've styled it doesn't look preppy to me. So maybe think Parisian (you know the French sailor thing) instead of preppy. Funny what you say about being over distressed denim--I'm not usually behind on fashion, but I'm just about to buy my first distressed pair. I've always dissed them thinking they were contrived and then that I'm too old, but I finally tried a pair, and they're so freakin cute! The actually have little patches on the inside which is kind of different.

I'm more of a stalker than outfit poster, but I'm happy you're posting pics again--I think we have a somewhat similar style. I'd post more pics if I had better light and my full length mirror weren't in my bathroom!

Wow! You rocked that outfit. I love the jacket and scarf!
