Time to stop looking for booties? Placeholders vs PPP

I know most of you are in the middle of a serious deep freeze. This isn't meant to taunt you in any way (really!!). I am wondering if I am so far into my 'cold' season in FL that it might be smarter to just wait and put the black bootie search on hold. We've had some 40's and 50's, but it looks like after this week, it's behind us.
I have a few entry level choices, I guess you could call it. I view them as solid 8's style wise. They'd certainly close the wardrobe gap, but maybe not make my heart pitter patter. I could buy a pair, and have placeholders essentially until 'the' pair showed up.
Or I could just put the search on hold and keep an eye open for them throughout the year, maybe finding a much loved style on sale off season before next fall rolls around, when I'd really need them.

Wow… looks like you are soon to be back in sandal territory. Perhaps you do not need to "actively" work toward filling this hole. However, if you should happen to stumble upon the perfect pair of black booties (especially if it is on sale), I say "grab".

I hear you Mo! I am having the same conundrum. We have had mid 70's all month long (24C) and that does nothing to make me even look at boots. My goal was to replace the ones I have with a flat style with almond toes but I have not found any. Okay, so I haven't looked very hard, but I have tried some on. For me, it has to be love, or I'll pass. So I guess I'm waiting till next year. Whenever I have bought a "place holder" item at the end of the season--just in case there is a shortage next year--I've been sorry. I would say keep on looking, because after all (unlike me) you actually like boots. Whenever you find just the right ones, pounce! But don't settle. If you don't want them more than a sundress you could wear right away, they probably aren't the right booties for you.

There is something about the shape of the Steven Roger boot that I find really appealing. Maybe it's worth trying on? But then again, if it's not really making you go pitter-patter, waiting until the next boot season starts heating up might make more sense. The newer styles in the fall might speak to you more, and then you can pounce on something you really love.

Well, are you having trouble getting dressed in the morning right now without them? If not, I say wait for the perfect ones. If you are having trouble, then it's a need and you would probably wear the placeholders enough to justify them.

If you have a serious hole now, I would be tempted by #2 and #3. So much of my decision is based on fit and comfort - I would be tempted to order and see how they feel IRL.

I would wait if you can. It doesn't sound like you need them, and there will be a whole crop of new black booties in the fall.

I find placeholders seldom work and I am still hunting for what I wanted.

Yeah, I should probably cool my jets and just keep an eye out in general in case an awesome pair pops up. It's hard to wait and go without sometimes, but smart. And I'd rather be smart than have a bunch of crud in my closet.

I'm in similar thought-mode not because bootie season is over yet, but because I'm thinking I've made it this far this year, and spring is a-comin', and maybe finish out the season and start thinking/looking again late next summer.
It's not that I'm so trendy--by the time I check off fit and heel and other criteria, I'd probably get almost the same thing now or later--but I might rather not buy them at the end of this season just in case I'm thinking a bit differently next fall.

Yay, wait for PPP. I'm trying to practice that too but sales goggles make it tough.

I would definitely wait. None of these set your heart on fire and next year, who knows what will come along. Or whether you'll need booties at all.

I've purchased all my boots & booties at deep discount during the summer. I tend towards more classic styles. So my advice would be to mentally tell yourself you're waiting, while keeping a loose search going as especially good sales appear. On the other hand, since the weather has been so cold this winter in places not normally cold, the booties may be selling out, I don't know. It is clear that retail in general is struggling in the U.S. and great sales abound.

I understand your mixed feelings: the season is so short, but booties seem so "you." What about looking for a peep-toe bootie that most of us find impractical for our climate?

Coming back again to say I think waiting for your heart to pitter patter is the way to go. Those items are so worthwhile!

FWIW I had a pair of romantic soles and I realized they looked like stripper shoes.

Generally, unless I'm really struggling with getting dressed because of a wardrobe hole, I don't get placeholders. I've always been upset with myself for settling too soon when I didn't have to. So I say to wait. :^)

Mo, I know you may not wear them for a while, and it's probably not worth making a full time job of your search at this point in the year, but if you stumbled upon the right pair, I would say definitely get them and put them away until the weather cooperates.

FWIW, I'm discovering that it's easier to dodge the skinny ankle bootie problem if you get some that are cut lower. As I posted on my Manlows thread, I have been wearing these to death.

Please don't settle. When the equivalent of those leather pants come along, you want to have the $$ (or $$$!) to get them.

Like you and Claire, I'm in the wait for PPP camp too. With 70 degree temps, I've done the same and put my quest for the perfect black riding boots on hold yet again. Sigh. The very best thing this forum has taught me (and there are lots!) is that placeholders are never satisfying to me and I virtually always regret them and regret settling. And it ends up costing me more in the long run. Slowly but surely, I'm learning to have patience, thanks to the inspiration of all of you!

Yep. Already a new 'pretty' has caught my eye lol. Who knows? Maybe in several months it'll be half price . . . mwahaha!
