I have an appointment on Saturday to get a long-overdue new prescription (my last eye exam was three years ago--yikes), and I tried on several pairs today while I was in the store to pre-select a new pair. My plan is to buy new ones and then in the spring, have new lenses with my updated prescription put into my old frames.

This first link are my current pair (in wine):

And this second link is what I'm purchasing (in black):

The Serafina glasses have worked spectacularly for me. They got me to realize that I look better with slightly rounded rectangles than ovals (which had been my shape of choice since I got my first pair when I was 16). I have a large head and a wide face, so I really like the extra space between the edge of the lens and the edge of the frame. More negative space is really flattering on me. I also feel that the overall top line follows my natural brow shape very well. I liked the wine color on the outside and the bright white on the inside. The sides have an interesting cutout pattern. The second I tried them on three years ago, I fell head-over-heels in love with them and didn't need to try on another pair. I still get compliments on them every now and then. I still like them and they're still in pretty good shape, so I'm not ready to part with them--especially because A) it's good to have a backup, and B) their shape is really difficult to find.

I like the Chelsea Morgan frame I chose because they're a similar shape and width. They don't have the extra space beyond the lens that I like so much in the Serafina frame, but the rectangles are still wide enough that they don't disrupt the lines of my face. They compliment my brow shape just like the Serafina frame. The black is bold, which I find appealing, though I'll be happy to have the wine frame to switch back to in a few months when I can afford to re-lens them because I like the touch of color Like the Serafina frame, they're white on the inside. The sides have a silver wavy lines and dots pattern. The Chelsea Morgan frame was the last one I tried on today and it was the one that clicked after five or six almost-perfect pairs that were acceptable but had something very slightly off from my preferences (a smidge too narrow, rectangles slightly too sharp, fit well but not enough visual interest, fit great but not quite sold on the color...). I'm extraordinarily picky about eyewear since I never wear contacts and am nearsighted enough that I could survive without my glasses but would have a really miserable time of it.

My biggest takeaway from trying things on today was that I MUST have nose pads on my glasses. It's always been a preference because I find them more comfortable than glasses without them since they're what I'm used to. But today I discovered via saying "eh, why not" and trying some without on that my nose is very slightly asymmetrical and I can't line them up properly. Since the nose pads can be adjusted on each side, they work a lot better for me.

My second biggest takeaway is that it isn't fair how smashing my girlfriend looks in cat-eye glasses whereas the shape makes me look like an insect. *Grin*
