Timberland boots arrived - too tight (ETA alternative ones?)

When I came home from work today I had a parcel on my doorstep, the Timberland boots. The mailman had just left it there - out in the open! I'm still a bit peeved.

Well, I tried them on and the size is actually fine, I had some room for my toes with the thin tights I was wearing. My calves are the problem, these are definitely too tight! Closing the zippers wasn't easy, although they got a bit wider after wearing them for a short time. You can see in pic #2 how tight they are. And I'm not sure if it would be possible to stretch them, because of the seams. Seems like they will go back....

Although the color is perfect for bookending and the leather is really sturdy. They have way more heft than my other boots. What do you think about these 'rugged' boots in general for me?

They also have the same boots in lower, like in pic #3. But there's only half a size smaller available and I'm not sure they would still fit.

Wow, Astrid - are you SURE those won't stretch enough? Because they look great on you and perfect for your style.

I wonder if it would be possible to add a small elastic gusset.

I guess I am lucky - my Timberlands have an adjustable strap at the top.

Thanks Suz. I guess I'd have to ask to make sure, but you can see in the second pic how the leather stretches but the seaming detail obviously doesn't and I'm not sure how one would work around that. There's already a small elastic gusset, but it's not helping much. I also have to admit that I have no idea if there's a decent cobbler around here, I've never had anything done to my shoes.

Astrid, I really like the boots and, being leather, is there any way a cobbler could stretch the upper parts? They really do look nice on you (love your outfit, btw). I think the lower ones are also outstanding, but you probably don't want to go down a half size.

I think your heart is really with those Docs. They are a completely different style, though, so do you have a need or preference for one over the other?

I really like those for you but if they are too tight... I'm not sure you should keep them. When I was heavier (four years ago) I used to have issues with boots all the time because they just wouldn't zip up (not even Clarks). I resorted to pull on boots but I'm not sure that's the best option. Just ask the cobbler if they can fix it for you and, if they can't, back they will have to go

Thanks Vicki! I like them too. I'll have a look how long I can keep the boots before I have to decide and try to find out if there's a cobbler near me I can ask about it. I can also search for the lower ones elsewhere in the same size, maybe I'll find them. And yes, I agree about the Docs! What I really need is another pair of winter boots to wear everyday even when there's snow and the Timberlands would be just right for that. The Docs are completely different. I don't really NEED them, but they would certainly be useful because my shoe wardrobe ist still so tiny.

Thanks Lemonade! You're right, if they can't be stretched they have to go back. They really aren't comfortable as they are now. I have to admit that I gained some weight again, it's always up and down with me, but I think these would be too tight in any case.

Oh shoot - I love these boots for you Astrid and they so suit your style. The colour is perfect IMO. I agree with Suz and Vicki to see if you can stretch the upper part at all, especially if they fit and are comfortable everywhere else.

Oh, they're so cute! I vote to see about stretching, too. You could try swabbing some rubbing alcohol on the inside of the shaft and wearing them, too. Is this style waterproof? I know some Timberlands are, and I find them so comfy.

Thanks Shannon! The color is really perfect, these are actually the best boots to book end my hair I've seen so far.

Thanks Rae! I'm not sure I want to experiment with them if I'm not sure I'll keep them, they were quite expensive. I think they are waterproof, yes.

I'm not loving these on you. It may be because they are tight at the top but they seem to be bulky around the ankles - would this be a problem for you?

I'm really on the fence with this one, too! I dunno what's that complicated to provide that elastic gusset (showcasted or somehow hiden) from all the boots manifacturers in the world!!! It's frustating to feel I need only a few milemeters more in the calf for a perfect fit. For those with slimmer calves will simply not strech! it's that simple, to mee.
BUT it's not olny about plus size calves, but also by fitting higher boots on thights, leggings, jeggings, or skinnies of different weights.
They could sell so much more of their products...I guess it's same like sleeveless dresses...ore unbearrable high heels...:-((
Sorry for you Astrid, if you cannot strech them, please don't keep, as the bulkiness will hurt your legs inside! Trust me, I already learned that lesson:-((.

Thanks Caro. They are actually fairly tight around the ankles, but they are a bit bulky that's true. It's because the leather is so sturdy.

Thanks Brenda! They definitely are too small, I had a feeling like my feet would fall of any moment if I hadn't taken them off.

Thanks Lyn! I completely agree with you, so many things could be easier with the right design features. And I won't keep them as they are now, definitely too tight!

I'm really thinking about just returning them. They were so expensive and of course the color is perfect, but that isn't worth anything if they don't fit right.

Could the ones I posted below be an useful alternative? They are more grey than taupe, but they maybe they would fit, what with the laces and all.

I would take the boots to the cobbler to get his opinion. If they close but are tight and if it is leather they probably can strech it for you.

(They have different discounts depending on the reason - I own a pair of "Bubble" boots with scratches that I got for 200€ instead of 330; if there are color mistakes, the discount is larger.) Thanks Doro! No, they don't have to have laces. I'm fairly open with that. I could maybe see the second ones you linked too, but these brands are a bit too 'öko' for me in general. I like a bit rugged, but more in classic styles.

Don't want to impose - it's just that I've just recently searched ALL OVER Amazon and The Interwebs for boots, just to fall in love with... a bag. (Fossil, of course, and worth almost my rent, of course!) But with boots and shoe brands, I now know my way around them ;o)

It's the Fossil Explorer Tote - http://www.fossil.de/de_DE/sho.....5258p.html - and the only "mistake" I made was to accidentally find this bag in a store and to actually touch it. Best leather EVER, so soft, and also, <insert every sensible reason for a bag here (size, practicality and so on)>.
Your "I always find the best things that way" resonated with me - I'm going to wait for a few weeks and see if I'm still in love, and if yes - the bag is MINE MINE. Mwahaha.

Also, good luck with the search for boots! I found that if you search Amazon for a brand, they will suggest similar brands. So if you type in e.g. "Tamaris", you get related search words like Esprit, Marco Tozzi, Rieker (I just tried that). Usually, this is a pretty ok indicator on related styles. Good luck!
