SO many people, especially women, get their thyroid removed due to a type of tumor doctors have diagnosed as "cancer". Having a thyroid issue myself I keep up with news on this topic regularly. Finally it seems that the medical community is admitting that in many cases, what they thought was a type cancer, is not actually cancer, and in those cases, there is no need to have invasive surgery or chemo.
From the NY Times "
Instead of calling it “encapsulated follicular variant of papillary
thyroid carcinoma,” they now call it “noninvasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with papillary-like nuclear features,” or NIFTP. The word “carcinoma” is gone."
Hoping this might be of some help.
