Thrifting finds - black leather skirt?

Here is a picture of my recent thrift store finds. Angie's post on capsules must have sunk in more than I thought. I pulled everything out of the bag and then just had to laugh.

What do you guys think of this leather skirt I found? It seemed a tad loose but I also didn't want a super tight leather skirt. I like the style and length (and the price - $6!!).

I"m not sure where I'm going to wear it. The length and cut are appropriate for work, but I'm already more overdressed than any of my coworkers. I would feel out of place in a leather skirt. I have an industry dinner/awards ceremony to attend in a couple weeks and I was thinking of wearing it to that. I haven't decided what top to wear it with yet.

That's quite a haul there Sara! You shop like I do! I think the leather skirt could fit you a little better, but who knows what it would cost to have it altered? If you have a printed blouse that you could wear untucked/belted under a long cascading or boyfriend cardigan, it might hide the fit issues while softening the hard edged "leather vibe". Some patterned hose or tights and heels and you're all set. Most of that I remember from Angie's post in the fall about how to wear leather; did you see it? Can't wait to hear about the rest of your loot!

Claire - thanks for the advice! I had seen Angie's post, but I forgot about it until you mentioned it. I'll have to look it up and see if anything in my closet will work.

I ♥ thrifting! I like your skirt, especially the buttons at the slit, but I agree that it looks a bit too big. That said, a tailor could probably fix that for you. I thrifted a leather skirt a few months ago and have had success make it church appropriate (and mine is shorter than yours), so I'm sure you could wear it to work if you wanted to.

Also, I know this is a long-shot, but you don't happen to live in northeast FL, do you? Your thrift store tags look completely identical (even the handwriting) to the tags at my favorite thrift store here in Jacksonville, and I'd love to meet a fellow YLFer and thrifter if you're around!

Great loot! But wanted to warn you the leather skirts are tending to bag with time and wearring, alot:-(( so you may consider an alterration for this, as seems a bit big for your slim figure.

kimana - I would love to meet a fellow YLFer and thrifter too, but unfortunately I live in Albuquerque, NM. That's pretty amazing that the tags and handwriting are so similar.

Hmm, I have to take the pants I thrifted to be hemmed, I think I'll ask how much it would cost to alter the skirt too.

Sara, I'm not sure about the leather skirt. It's not quite right. The fit is ill in certain areas - which makes it look dated. Perhaps it will look better styled?
