Thrifted WIW w Qs

I recently thrifted this jean skirt for casual outfits - it's got an intentionally raw hem. Out of date or still a cute detail? (I could always hem it.) also, while I'm at it the sweater is also recently thrifted. It's not a color I would usually wear w my skin tone but to my surprise I thought it looked pretty good. Y/n?

I think it's the button front that is more dated.

Hmm. I've always liked button-front skirts, but I agree there could be a "homeschooling mom who wears sensible shoes" vibe to this one with the denim and all. Is that the kind of out of date you were thinking of?

I wonder how it would look with more casual stuff, like a graphic tee and sneaks. ...

Laura, have you tried sitting in this skirt? Sometimes these front button or slit skirt styles reveal more than you'd like. The sweater color is very pretty on you. I think I'd like the sweater best worn open.

I don't love the raw hem, but I think the button front is ok. Banana Republic did a button front skirt recently and it looked quite nice to me. It's a style we haven't really seen much recently but I think it's fun in kind of a retro way. I think the sweater is pretty too and agree that it would look best worn open.

I have a poison eye for raw hems, so I will refrain from commenting on that feature! I also fear button front and even fly front skirts. In the past I have not found them comfortable. But if it works for you, a denim skirt is a great item to have on hand.

The colour of the sweater is very pretty on you. I think I'd like it best open, too!

No idea about currency of button-front skirts or raw hems (disclosure: wearing raw-hem jeans myself); but had to pop in just to say I LOVE that sweater on you!

I'm not a fan of the raw hem, but I do like your idea of a graphic tee and Cons or sneakers for an updated, fresh look with the button-front denim. That could work very well.

Everyone, thanks fir your thoughts. So far the walking/sitting issue has been ok (maybe because the skirt's longer?). Like someone else said I've seen button front skirts around in stores recently so that's one reason that I thought it might work.
I have to admit that I almost always button cardigans somehow - otherwise they never stay put and flop around when you move. (am i the only one?) But I could button from the bottom instead.

One of my favorite denim skirts (I have three--maybe too many) has a button front. I was able to find a photo of the skirt on ebay:

I don't think the button front is "out"--it's just one of those style features that is sometimes more common and sometimes a little less so. My skirt is pegged, with interesting seaming in the back. The buttons are really sturdy and well-designed, so they don't pop open with wear or gap when I sit.

Those possible negatives with the buttons would be my main concerns with your skirt. If it's comfortable to wear and the buttons behave themselves, then wear and enjoy! I don't like raw hems for myself, but I think it's fine on your skirt, and I'd hate to see you lose the length necessary to do a hem.
