Hi all, and Happy New Year!

As some of you may know, January is not my favourite month (read: Helena is miserable in January). I find it long and too cold and generally too gray and I would happily sit on the couch with tea and a blanket for 31 days straight.

This usually translates into a fashion crisis because I am not motivated and revert to tired old sweats which then make me feel kinda crappy.

Well not this year friends! You CAN teach an old dog new tricks! I decided to accept that deep winter is a time when comfort trumps all and anything I can do to make that feel better is a good thing, so in Nov/Dec I set my sights to augmenting my active/comfy wear and so far, I am enjoying the outcome (which is basically a small but mighty capsule of pieces that look nice and feel comfortable and comforting).

My last three days of outfits are a good representation of my three levels of dress a la January.

1. Uber casual ... I LOVE the colour of my new cropped sweatshirt and my Ugg slippers are my favourite thing at the moment! I am living in these navy leggings at home and they are thin enough for me to comfortably layer my navy sweatpants over them to go for a walk or just for when I feel extra-chilly.

2. JPE ... my taupe sweatshirt matches my taupe puffer exactly, which I think adds a touch of "just polished enough" for quick errands. These leggings are a little thicker and my Blondo chelsea boots make it all feel a touch less gym-wear.

3. As dressy as I want to be ... okay I wouldn't wear this out for dinner, but for lunch with my Dad it will do the trick. Flared leggings aka yoga pants, but with a proper sweater vs. a sweatshirt, and a proper coat vs. a puffer.

What do you wear to stay happy during gloomy January (or to stay cool during roasting January for the southern hem fabbers!)?
