Any thoughts on this Uniqlo IDF zip sweater?

This used to be one of my favorite styles for decades... but I haven't owned a similar item in a long time partly because it's hard to find a zip-up sweater that doesn't look too sporty.

I was tempted to buy it just because it's been such a beloved item for me, but I'm on the fence now: what will it go with? Fashion is different now from what it was when I wore these... Is this still current for a dressy/casual wardrobe? (I.e. my wardrobe is not sporty or athleisure, but doesn't have to be extremely formal).

I know ultimately it's a personal decision, but getting input from others might help!

I would consider this a classic item, although I've been seeing more cable knits this year than in some time. I don't personally see this as too sporty.

A classic style for sure! I think it would be all in the way you mix it up with other silhouettes, will keep it current.

Though it is a classic, I think it would look current with some olive pants, or some denim bootcuts. Cute.

I'm thinking you made your decision but I've asked myself similar questions about styles I have past experience with and I've been happy reintroducing them IF there's a detail that's more current, like a zipper, instead of the big wooden buttons this type of sweater used to have!

Yes it'll work.
I'd suggest a leather jacket to wear over it. But the jacket would have to be oversized

Isabel, I actually haven't decided yet! (Not sure if it's even still available at this point...) But now your post makes me realize that I would actually love it even more with big buttons in that "fisherman style"....

None of these have exactly what I think you're describing, but some have lines you might find interesting.

It looks like this is the original source of the charcoal hooded, zipped, long sweater I bought used online last year, and loved through a damp winter. If it's merino as labeled, it's not the long fine kind; it's scratchy. I'm the most scratch-averse person I know (can't wear cashmere) but this works because I don't wear it against skin. Charcoal-heather turtlenecks made it my woodsy casual, cosy "twinset." The length isn't the most flattering on me, but the two-way zipper allows for some visual vertical adjustment.

I'm also super-sensitive to wool so thanks for addressing the itch factor...

I am bumping this thread because this lovely sweater in Ivory is at my house and I can't figure out how to wear it. What goes under it?
Part of my problem is I'm busty and average/short necked and not sure this is the best style for that?

I'd wear a light weight knit...maybe a turtleneck...under it, but can see a button down shirt working just as well. I have a similar one in alpaca that is great for warmth but doesn't feel stylish, so will be watching this thread.

BrieN, would love to know more of your impressions on the sweater--maybe pics to share? I still haven't bit the bullet!!! It's sitting in my virtual shopping cart. I'm on the fence because of the material.
