Thoughts on this dress or shirt?

I have been obsessed with this fabric pattern since the beginning of the fall season, and now there are major mark downs. I first lusted after the dress but hesitated because of the poofy sleeves, concerned they are not petite or work friendly. The fabric is a wool mix (appealing to me) and I don't have many long-sleeved dresses. I tried the blouse on in-store. I really liked it, but it was a tad too big. The smaller size is still available online. Thoughts? Should I hold out for new spring digs (it is -14 C as we speak) or listen to the pounding of my pulse for this pattern? I think my first love is the dress, but the blouse seems like an easy-to-wear piece.

This fabric/print speaks to me too! Are you worried about the length of this dress? I think the sleeves are fine; but they may poof more in real life. I have definitely worn poofy sleeves to work!

I sort of like the top more than the dress; it seems more versatile (with a cami underneath, of course). However, it seems like the dress may be more flexible in your closet!

Lyn* I am not worried about the length--it will be knee length on me for sure. Yes, the blouse is sheer and would require appropriate undergarments, or overgarments, I suppose.

beautiful chinese spring cherry trees pattern....I see why you are drawn. I prefer the blouse for wearability and longevity...the dress is so special that you may lose interest in it after awhile

It's so lovely, Scarlet - I could totally see this on you. I might opt for the blouse, as it seems more versatile. But either would be great.

This is so you! I love the look of the dress--feminine and slightly bohemian. I think the top is lovely too but rather sheer and has that nehru (?) collar thing going on which I'm not crazy about. I'd give it a bash. It looks like something you could wear with a scarf now and sans scarf come spring. It's lovely. Go for it!

Beautiful! You are not off your rocker. I say go for it, especially since you can't stop thinking about it. My vote would be the blouse- so so versatile. I'm imagining three ways to style it as I type.

Very pretty print. I like both items. I could see the dress as a tunic with leggings or skinnies as well.

It is CRAZY cold in your neck of the woods at the moment. (My Papa is wearing two scarves in the Netherlands!)

I vote pass on the dress - the sleeves might overwhelm you. Love the blouse though. Will look cool with your faded jeans and light boots.

Angie, and here I thought I was so odd wearing two scarves, but you have a stylin' papa, so I consider this look to be officially sanctioned
Blouse it is then, ladies. Thanks for your help. It's hard to pass up that dress but I am afraid Angie is right about the sleeves, and it seems like most you think the blouse is a better option.
