Thoughts on this color? - YouLookFab Forum

I realized recently that I'm lacking options in my wardrobe for mid temperatures. I have T-shirts and wool pullovers, but not really much for inbetween. I'm also trying to plan ahead for our summer holidays, where I will be packing a carry-on for three weeks (two weeks in Britanny and one week at home). I've been looking for tops, but shopping ethically the options are all rather expensive. This longsleeved T-shirt is on sale. It's supposed to be a relaxed cut and I'd wear it with denim (jeans or shorts), my rain jacket and casual sandals or sneakers. I'm just hesitating because of the color - do you think this would go with my wardrobe? Do you like it?

It certainly goes with your rain jacket and sneakers!
I'm finding it hard for to tell exactly what color it is because it looked like a pale lavender until I expanded the image. Larger, it has almost greenish ares too. Maybe it has a finish on it ?

It might be pretty on you, but it might also be hard to wear alone. It's not as intense or color saturated as many of your other choices

I don't think this is the best color Astrid - it's too between gray and lavender or something. I think I'd hold out for something that you know is a good color for you. Unless there is a way to try it on in person first.

Thanks Isabel! It looks like a pale lavender on the website on my screen. Looks pretty much like a typical SSu color to me. You're right that it's not my usual...

It's hard to know if this color would be good on you, Astrid. I'm guessing that it may be too cool for your complexion. It looks like a neutral that could blend well although maybe tricky with other grey tones. If the price is low enough that you could get a good cost per wear with a scarf, if necessary, it could work out well.

Astrid, I think it might go well with brown for example, but also agree with Joy that it may be too cool. If you cannot try this specific top, maybe worth at least trying a similar lavender top in a B&M store?

Thanks Joy and Daria! I can wear cool colors as long as they're soft. I don't worry much that the color wouldn't suit me, it's just that I normally go for the warmer deeper end of the spectrum with my Soft Summer colors and it's true that it might look a bit off in my wardrobe...

I found another one for more or less the same price, not cotton but modal. Grey with dropped shoulder sleeves. This would probably be easier to wear with everything. Of course that would mean another neutral in the wardrobe.

I think grey is a great color on you. I like it! It's a little simpler in cut, too, which seems to be more "you." I admire your style!

Thanks Thirkellgirl! The grey one would be like a cross between my navy longsleeved tee and my striped tee with the dropped shoulder seams (both no longer in the wardrobe).

I like the color of the first one. It's hard to tell for sure but I suspect it's like my taupe pants that read as taupe in some lights and a dusty purple in others.

However, I prefer the cut of the second one. I personally find that high-necked raglan seam cut of the first one to be difficult for my pear shape and we are similar in that regard I think. Raglans look better on strong shoulder lines IMO. They're also more sporty so I think the plainer neckline of the second would be more versatile.

ETA: A lower or wider neckline with a raglan seam is a lot easier to fit IMO because the seams themselves are a lot shorter (and less angled in the case of a wide neckline).

Thanks Diana! Good points. You're right that raglan sleeves may look less flattering. I do like the simple neckline of the second one and you're right that it looks less sporty. I could see the grey one tucked into a skirt, the first one not so much...

I think I'm going to order the grey one.

I like the cut of the gray one much more - it is less sporty in a good way. And I imagine it will fit better into your current color scheme too.

I think dusty purple (or mauve) is hard to wear... I remember struggling with it in the late 70s! Yikes.

I love stripes for long sleeved tees! Maybe you could buy a Breton tee in Brittany:)

That grayed lavender is tricky: on Soft Summers it's beautiful; on everyone else it's sort of depressing. Our absent friend, E. (Come back, E.!) can wear this sort of muted color, but you seem to have a warmer skin tone. Also, the raglan sleeves on this shirt don't seem well sewn--they look a little bunchy at the shoulder. I'm sure you can find something that will suit you better.

I don't much like gray with your coloring. Could just be me though. I do like the navy jacket and burgundy sneakers.

Kiwigal, I plan to! We'll be in Quimper and I'm planning to visit the factory outlet of Armor Lux to get myself one of their classic breton shirts.

Tulle, you're right, the color would look great on Eva. But I agree that the cut with the raglan sleeves might not have been best. Hopefully the grey works better.

Thanks Thistle! I'm still really happy with the rain jacket, all those weeks searching last year were definitely worth it. Interesting that you don't like the grey on me, I think it's a good neutral.

Love the sneakers and rain jacket. Personally, I love grey with navy blue. And I like both the options in tees. However, Diana makes some good points. Also, the 2nd option would be more versatile and easier to pair with not just jeans but also pants and skirts.

I bought that rain jacket last year for my trip to Scotland. I ordered so many jackets and returned them until I had one that wasn't too gear like and fit well. The sneakers are three years old already, but I still enjoy wearing them.
