Thoughts on these two pieces (shirt and corduroy skirt)?

I have this striped shirt with dropped shoulder seams and a grey corduroy skirt in my cart right now. It's winter sale stuff. I'm not sure if I should pull the trigger. They are marked down to 25€ each and I still have some 10€ birthday voucher that expires soon.

The shirt looks to be a nice relaxed style and I really like the dropped shoulder seams. It reminds me of the striped Boden shirt I had to let go a while ago. I also like the purple. The skirt would be very hit and miss, because I don't have length measurements. But it looks like a decent length. I like that it's a fine whale and the dark grey would be a nice neutral. Bonus points for no awkwardly placed back pockets.

What do you think? Are one or both worth a try? Thanks.

I think both could work for you. Sometimes I find those really dropped shoulders tricky to style, especially with layers on top, but it all depends on how it fits you and how stretchy the fabric is. Skirt looks like a great basic.

I like the shirt, but you would have to try it and see if it works with your shoulders.

I am less sold on the skirt, but this is a personal bias. If it is cold enough for cords, then it is usually too cold for me to get myself in a skirt

My one concern about the skirt would be that it has a front fly, which sometimes makes annoying bumps when you're wearing an untucked knit top. But as long as the tops you'd wear w it work w your jeans you should be set. And I love corduroy skirts; I only have 1 but I'd happily add a couple more to my wardrobe.

Both of the pieces look very you and I think would remix well in your current wardrobe. If you're pretty sure of fit or can easily exchange/return, I'd say go for it!

Oh I just had another thought: are you still trying to lighten up? Because these are obviously both dark. I think you look lovely in darks, so just throwing that out there.

I think the top is classic, but it is dark as E pointed out. The price sounds tempting of course. The skirt I'm not so crazy about. I think if you want a skirt that will be worn for a long time maybe you could do better. The combination of cord and front zipper make me pause.

Thanks for the input, everyone - very good points. It really helped! I'm not going to order the skirt, you definitely raised some concerns with the cord/front zipper combination and the color. I think I can wait until I find a great one without a front zipper. But I think I'm going to give the shirt a try. If the fit works out it would be a great addition to the wardrobe and of course the price is very good. And it's not too dark. I think it might look nice with lighter bottoms in spring too.

I'm glad you're going to pass on the skirt Astrid. I agree with others that the front zipper combined with corduroy could make the skirt unsmooth (is that a word?) under tops.

I really like the striped top though and can see that working very well in your wardrobe.

I love them both! Cord skirts are really fun, and I like the subtle stripes in that shirt. I would go with both, but if I had to choose one I'd probably pick the skirt as it seems more versatile.
