Thoughts on these dresses? Not urgent anymore

Am out shopping
Picture one smaller and two larger size.
Would only wear white dress with a belt.

ETA - I didn't end up buying one on the spot so more input is still useful,

I'm hoping to find a dress that is ok for casual and work (or perhaps just casual friday)

I like them all Anne!! I think I prefer the two dark ones to the white and I think the smaller size in the first dress.

I do like the white but would prefer to see it with the belt to confirm:)

I love them all. Would like to see the white one with your arms down but from what it appears these all hit your waist at an ideal spot, and hem length looks great! They all seem to have a similar shape and it's working for you!

Size wise I like #1 and #4. #4 in particular seems like just the right size.

Not sure I'd even belt the white dress.

Is there any hem that you can use to add a bit of length! They look too short for work or church, but it may just be the angle of the photo.

These are nice styles on you, Anne. I like 2 for the bit of extra length that it gives. I had the same thought as Joy, wondering about the length of all of them. They look great on you; it's not a matter of flattery at all, but simply whether the length limits their wearability for you. I think just a couple of inches longer might be more versatile.

Thanks Sal. I'm thinking the white one might not be a goer at all - I was just so pleased to see a long sleeved dress in winter that wasn't dark coloured!

Shiny -Yes, 4 felt the best size wise. 1 was a bit tight across the shoulders but 2 was looser around the torso

Joy, Brooklyn and Sharan - I was thinking of wearing with leggings - otherwise, yes a bit short.I didn't check the hems

I think your proportions really do look best in dresses, and it seems like with your small waist, you can wear all sorts of styles.

I love the idea of the white dress with a bold coloured belt.

I'm not sure about the white one for work, but I bet you could style it in a work way.

I think all the dresses look good. I'm with you, though, that sometimes shoulder tightness is an issue even when the rest of an item fits well. Does the fabric have any stretch?

These all look cute on you. It's hard to tell about the shoulders in the first or your torso in the second, because that happens to be where the phone is. The third one would be cute in a funked-up thrift shop kind of way. I think the length is pretty common these days, isn't it? If you want to add a couple inches--and I'm not saying you need to--how would it look to use white, like the collar?

All of them are pretty. They are too short for work, unless they are worn as tunics.
My favourite is the white one. It is very lovely. Perhaps "too much" for the workplace, but a wonderful choice for parties!

The dresses look great on you. None of these dresses strike me as overly short to wear to work. . .unless you are pretty active at work and have to raise your arms and/or bend over a lot and then they become problematic. Especially for casual wear I would assume you want to be comfy and if any dress feels constricting or confining I would think it might be a deterrent to wearing it.

For me it's the other way around; I don't want my clothes distracting me or getting in my way at work, because being able to concentrate is important there. I suppose it depends on what kind of work.

I don't know that these dresses are shorter than what I'm wearing at work today.

Donna and Fashionintern.Hmm. I can take a certain amount of discomfort for work and smart casual (just not for lounge wear). I'm fine with sheath dresses and jackets, for example.

Both dresses look great on you. The dark one is better in the smaller size. In the larger size, you can the shoulder seams "falling off" your shoulders. This is my usual skirt/dress length, so I don't see any issue there, but I guess it depends on where you live.

Duh, there's a third dress! It looks good too, possibly too wide in the shoulders. Not sure I'd choose that collar if I were looking for casual...

Thanks LauraG - the collar gave my husband pause too - he said it looked prim.

My dilemma is that I'm having a style shift to lighter colours, which are quite hard to find in the middle of winter (I'm in Australia) - which is why the white dress appealed.

Since, if I have to wear dark, I prefer having white near my face, the collar worked.

FWIW - this style of dress wasn't really what I was looking for - - more a unbelted shirtdress or shift look was what I had in mind. But I didn't find any - at least in the colours I was after.

fashiontern - the length is indeed very common these days - and nice of rachy to say that it looks good on me. My preference is for a bit longer myself, but you can't have everything - and midi lengths look terrible on me too, unless they are just covering the knee.

Do you need another dress right now, or can you wait till better colors are available? I think it's pretty hard to warm up to anything if the color's not right.

I don't enjoy clothes shopping (unlike most people on YLF) and don't find much that both fits and I like. Its more than likely I won't buy anything - that's my default!

Anne I love pic 4. I find the ( polka dots, right? ) cuter than the floral, I like the collar, don't think it looks prim. And I think the length is not too short, myself, depends how much you bend etc I guess. Anyway shorter would offset any primness your husband sees wouldn't it?! I agree that length suits you well, proportionately.
Afraid I don't like the white, myself, but ignore me!
