Thoughts on retro sneakers: Cons vs. Tretorn

I love my Cons, I really do, but I just cant get past the feeling I have duck feet, and they look as ducky in pictures as they do to my eyes IRL.

I'll keep wearing them, but have started looking for an alternative that has a lower profile and doesn't look so chunky (which means Superga is also out). I've been considering these Tretorns in antique stone:

I know they don't have the classic cool of Cons, but are they hopelessly uncool? Or are there better alternatives out there?

Wellll, I should be the *last* person replying as I am definitely not a cool sneaker guru!!! Still, I also suffer from "think-I-have-duck-feet"itis syndrome, so here's my two cents.

I have heard, through extensive communing with the Interwebs, that Onitsuka Tiger sneakers ALSO have some kind of vintage cache, and I picked up a pair of gray ones for work outs. They are SO awesome, and SO low profile, I am thinking of getting a graphic pair to wear with denim! I also kind of like the Nike ones offered by J Crew. They have a nice "old school" sneaker feel to them. Definitely look like spring/summer.

Good call on the tigers. They are extremely comfortable, but I would never wear them with shorts as I think they make my feet look long. I'm also partial to the classic k Swiss or a vans checkerboard slip on.

You know, when it's shorts weather, I never wear sneakers - it has to be sandals. My feet run hot in the summer and cold in the winter.

I don't wear sneakers int he summer if I can at all help it. I mean, it's the end of March and snowing, so I wear the sandals when I can.

That being said, I remember desperately wanting Tretorns when I was in school and my parents refusing to buy them because they were too expensive. Instead, they bought me the K-Mart knock-offs.

Later on, we were at some discount store, and they had Tretorns, in my size, deeply discounted because they were mint green. My mom got them for me, and I wore those suckers out because they were real Tretorns. Ahh, the power of marketing!

Well, I'm just getting ready to post a WIW of me in Cons -- with 9 1/2 feet, so, obviously, I've been in the market for cool sneaks.

I've always been a Keds girl --- and I've fought for the coolness keds. But all the twee Taylor Swifty looks that are being marketed now, while cute, just make me feel to, well "teen." So, I'm looking at your post with interest, Beth.

I thinkin' that Tretorns would be fab!

When I first read your post, I thought it said, Tretorns in an antique store....and I was like, I know I'm old, but really, when did Tretorns become antiques. Glad I clicked on the link and realized it was antique stone.
Anyway, I've also been debating between the cons, Tretorns, keds and superga. Interested in what everyone has to say

i like the Tretorns!

i feel like I have huge feet for my height (9 at just over 5'5") so I am always paranoid as well. I had been looking at the asics tai chi shoe and also have this Sanuk shoe which the detailing i think makes my foot looks smaller and it is super comfortable for my slightly wide foot (I find Con's feel too narrow at the toe box)

ETA: I dont know if these are "better" that the Tretorn's... as they are not as "sneaker-y" but just wanted to add an idea.

I didn't mean to say I don't like the tretorn s, just making some additional suggestions. I'm a sneaker wearer all year round. Actually I don't much care for having my feet exposed. Can't pinpoint why. I do like my feet. But anyways those sanuks are super cute. I have my eye on a pair as well.
