Thoughts on glasses?

I love my current glasses. They took forever to find and cost a fortune, but I have enjoyed them every day for more than two years. Now my prescription has changed (actually a slight improvement, so, yay) - but it means hunting for new frames.

When I bought the red ones, I knew right away that they were "it" -- bold/unique enough AND classic enough -- all in one package.I don't have that same certainty with these ones.

These were the three the SA and I liked the best. Photos snapped in the optometrist's bathroom -- the only place you can take your mask off to see the glasses on your actual face!.

1/2 - I like the colour on these. The shape is quite different than anything I've had before. Not sure yet if that is good or bad.
3/4 -- A more rounded shape than I usually consider, but I don't mind them in the longer view shot. Closeup shots of glasses get weird. If I remember correctly, the arm on these is a very soft gold.
5/6 - I think this pair has a slight green tint. The colour might be called Asparagus Swirl.

Now I turn to the expertise here for some objective opinions. Do these fit properly? Any one jump out as better (I know that is always a loaded question!) Or should I just keep looking? They are expecting an Ann et Valentin shipment (my current brand), so maybe they will have something worth looking at. $$$!!!)

This is an area that I do not feel very confident about offering opinions, but my first impression is the third one is the best here. I think #1 might be too wide. But I think you should wait for the new crop to arrive to see if one just calls out to you.

I like each of these but my favorite is the last one. They seem to fit best but I am no expert.

Because I like my current glasses so much, is it even POSSIBLE to find a pair I like as well or better? Or will I have to endure a couple of years with an "okay" pair before I can fall in love again?!?!?

Gosh picking glasses is not easy! I like the colour and shape of #1, they showcase your brows but are possibly a bit wide. Your eyes are more centred in glasses #2 and #3, but #3 hides your brows somewhat. Not helpful at all I’m afraid!
Can you put new lenses in your current frame (assuming the frames are still in good condition)? I’ve done that before . The optometrist obviously wants you to buy a new frame......

I like #1 the best, but why not wait for the new batch of frames?

I’m in the same boat with an optometrist appointment pending and my past specs now two years old. I’ve just started wearing an older pair because I damaged a lense on the 2 yo pair. I might just get updated lenses in my 2 yo pair because I really like the frames. I walked around with the new prescription for two months before I ‘found’ a pair I liked - and it was actually YLF friend nemosmom who found them online, and sent me the link!

Thanks, Carla -- Those are pretty! Like you, I'm not in a hurry -- especially since I am NOT in love. So, yes, will wait to see the new batch. I might also ask about a couple of styles on the Bevel website. I do like the teal colour. And I like the shape better in person than in that up close photo. But I like my current glasses even in an up close photo, sooo...

Lozz - yes, I could put the lenses in the old frame. I have only one pair of glasses, so would be totally helpless when they send them away to get the new lenses put in! And I worry a bit if the frame might start to fail because it is already a couple of years old. Zeiss has a sale where a second set of lenses is half price, so I could get new lenses in the old frames AFTER I get a new pair. Then I would have two pair with my current prescription, which could be good. Or it might mean I would just go back to wearing only the red ones. LOL

Thanks Shevia and Joy -- I think the third pair was the SA's favourite, too. As my husband just said, "they're fine". But they don't seem to have the happiness factor of my existing pair.

This will take time.

I like 2 and 3. They seem good fits. I do find 1 a little wide.

Thanks, Rachy! I felt the same way -- although they seemed better in person than in the photo. Frankly, these all look a bit large to me (even though they "fit"), but maybe because my current pair is quite small.

I like all these three, and 1 might be my fave here. Love the colour. I think it is difficult to assess glasses based on selfies as the phone camera usually makes them look bigger (distorts the proportions a little). Since YOU don’t feel like any of these is the ONE right away, wait for the new shipment and keep looking…

I like the plan to get new lenses for the current frames and have a second pair to boot. But I hope that spare pair is also something you really like, that goes in a different direction than your current ones.

CarolS, why can’t you get new lens for your current frames? Ive done this often…because like you i had a pair of glasses that i LOVED…and did want to give up…until i found something else that i loved
And a good optical company won’t need to send your frames out. They will order the lens and install in house.

my experience with “settling” on frames is that you always feel like you settled, and if your like me and wear your glasses everyday and see them as a part of you, its just a consistent reminder that these aren’t your 1st choices.

#1 is my favourite too, but if you are not sure, it is definitely worth looking at what is new in.

Kkards, maybe I just assumed they would need to be sent away, but when I commented to both the optician and the SA that I couldn't afford to be without them, neither one corrected me. Still, it is an option I have not ruled out.

Stagiaire Fash - that is my thinking, too. I have had the notion for some time that I might like a second pair in green. But I need time to consider how I feel about this shape. Bevel's website shows a couple of other small frames that also come in that coulour, so I might ask about those options.

Katerina - good point about the distortion. I did feel these looked better in person.

I would be patient and picky and keep looking because you like your old frames so much. I looked in three different places before finding my new frames, and they were so outside of what I normally think works for me! These look fine but I hear you on wanting to LOVE the new ones.

I feel that #1 is too wide and I'm not sure #2 works as well with your brow line...#3 looks like the best fit, but I would wait until you find your dream pair!

All good but the final pair looks the best to me. I think you should look into re-using your frames if you love them and they were pricey. Frames should hold up for years so that shouldn't be a problem. A good optician should come up with a plan instead of always expecting us to buy new ones.

My favorites are the first pair, Since you like your current ones so much, I would try to either change their lenses or find a new pair you like equally.

I like the first one best but it does seem a little too wide for your face. All three are nice looking to me, but obviously it comes down to which you prefer. I would definitely upgrade the ones you love with new lenses, even if as a backup pair.

@ CarolS - back to say I so agree with kkards. Many times I felt like I settled, but when I tried on the lilac cat’s eyes in 2017 the heaven’s opened and angel’s sang! I didn’t think I would ever find better, but when I tried on the tortoise shell in 2019 I had a visceral reaction that they were The Ones.

Your new pair are out there. Keep looking, but when you feel overwhelmed, step back and take a break.

I'm apparently quite obtuse, because although I see you in person fairly often, I didn't register that you wore red glasses. I quite like the 3rd pair, although they aren't particularly new and different than what's been out there for a few years now. The colours are really nice on you .Glasses are indeed hard, and I procrastinate until I can't any longer .......which is actually right about now. They are always SO expensive and confusing.

I would wait and try on additional pairs. Glasses have to feel right, not just okay.

Thank you, Angie. That means a lot knowing how particular you are about how glasses should fit. Gives me some confidence about being on the right track, at least.

Cat2 - you said it. I'll try these on again and look at others, too.

Lisa-- That is too funny. And IKWYM about glasses being so challenging. I used to mostly wear contacts and went for many years without a backup pair of glasses because I just couldn't find any that I liked (I probably didn't look that hard, either -- but every time I tried, it was a bust) I hope to move a BIT faster this time.

Lesley -- So true! I figure I might at least get a sense if one stands out as particularly right or wrong. Or, I get what I already knew -- they all have some potential. And keep looking before committing.

Carla -- yes, I would like the angels to sing! I want to look in the mirror and say, yup - THAT's what I want to convey.

Star, Tanya, Robin -- yes, I can see value in replacing the lenses in the red ones, too. I've feel like I have been living dangerously the past couple of years without contact lenses or another pair of glasses as a fallback.

Janet and Grace -- yes -- this is one area where I will definitely be picky!

CarolS, you are sooooo on the right track! I think your existing specs are burgundy, I think? Not bright red like mine.

You're right, Angie -- they aren't bright red like yours -- the red is quite blue, and not solid -- tints and shades of the same colour swirl together a bit. But the addition of black arms and a black piece across the bridge do make them read closer to burgundy.

Carol-my current glasses were the 1st pair I tried that day, and the 1st I had tried in a couple of years. But for the Pauli wore before I shopped for 6 months and tried hundreds of pairs. Bur with each pair I just knew.
