Thoughts on Bluefly

I confess I never really got into Bluefly shopping - I am just not good at finding things there and I get overwhelmed quickly. I only bought something once and ended up returning it. So now I have a coupon that I would like to use, but I have no idea what to get. I also get bombarded by their sales notices, which look quite attractive, but I can't seem to find anything that stands out for me. Maybe it's their pictures.
Anyway, I was curious, what type of things or brands do you tend to buy on Bluefly? I feel like I have to figure it out at last. Thanks!

I tend to buy things on Bluefly only when they are having one of their amazing, time-limited sales, and then I go for things that are beautiful but usually too expensive (read: designer labels) for my budget.

At total bargain prices, I have bought a Sweet Pea top, a Nanette Lepore blouse, a winter coat, and a cream-colored silk-cotton sheer pintuck shirt.

I tend not to look at handbags or shoes on Bluefly, but I couldn't tell you why that is.

I like getting fancier knits from Bluefly, like things from James Perse or Bailey 44. Not-basic tees with some fancy detailing, but not something I would ever pay $85 for (or whatever retail is). On bluefly, though, the prices become more reasonable, and I end up with great transitional pieces.

Sorry for the late reply Marianne, I meant to write something sooner.

A few years ago I only had plain V-neck sweaters in solid colours and I was so bored of that look. I decided that I would try to only buy pieces with some sort of unique detailing in the future (sleeves, collar, texture) or in beautiful colours. Bluefly always has those in abundance, things you just can't seem to find elsewhere (especially not over here).

To summarize, I always have a look at:
- the sweaters (fab cashmere sweaters, often still expensive though)
I got this one at BF:

- dresses (I bought the A.B.S. dress I'm wearing in the Rotterdam blog post via Bluefly)

I'd also recommend having a look at the coats and jackets (e.g. they have Soïa & Kyo and Mackage coats at reduced prices, and some of the jackets & blazers are absolutely divine).

Oh, tops: a while ago many YLF'ers were raving about the Leo & Sage faux-wrap tops and they often have Sweet Pea as well.
If you're into graphic tees, they have quite a lot of those too.

I've never bought skirts or trousers/jeans from them, but I have the impression good deals are to be had on that front too.

Thank Inge! I am still working on my fall shopping list. It will be quite short because I don't need much for my lifestyle... and I have a lot of higher priority expenses right now. I know I would like to get at least one cardigan and I also would love a casual-ish dress, but I don't have a good idea about it yet. Maybe something similar to your new dress. I could also use a non-black jacket. I've been looking at my usual sites - BR, Esprit, Nordstrom - just to see what the options are, but I am not ready to commit to anything so far. I like many Bluefly pieces that people post here, and it seems like a good source, I just can never find anything on my own. BTW, the sweater is lovely, and so is the ABS dress! And I hear you on plain sweaters, that was always my problem too.
