And on that note cheeky Maya, why are you being a party-pooper on my party posts
(Not my outfit posts, but my general party wear posts). I'm going to make you go to a party.

Steph, I like your bag more as a shoulder bag I think. I have it filed away for when I am looking for a shoulder bag. Somehow as a crossbody it doesn't do it for me.

I think since I am not going to find a bag I love anyway I will just continue to be cheap and focus my pennies elsewhere!

Sorry Angie, I am just not glam enough

Nonsense. Your eyes are sparkly enough.

These are vegan and made in a co-op in Portland, OR.

how about this one:
http://www.ebags.com/product/n.....d=10109449
you should check out all the Nine West bags, they are nicely made I think, I have one!

...

I am utterly blissful. Flying around the room.

I just bought the very last one of these in chartreuse. I have pined away for a Kate Spade bag for so long, but alas, they always had leather somewhere--even if it was just the strap or the name tag.

BUT NO MORE!

http://www.zappos.com/kate-spa.....chartreuse

AND IT'S THE PERFECT SIZE AND EVERYTHING!

AND IT WILL LOOK AMAZING WITH MY RED COAT!

Yay, I love material things!

Now I just have to return everything else (excepting my coat) that I bought in the past few weeks to make up the cost...

Oh yay!! I love that bag. I actually want to get it too, but I have a Stella in exactly that color already.... I'm torn.

When you get it, will you let me know if it passes your inspection for no leather? I have had the same issue with Kate Spade where I will think there is no leather, and then there will be a zipper pull or something with a leather fob.

Ok, now that I have come down from the cloud I was sitting on...

Anna, those are really cute bags. I'm bookmarking the site for future reference.

Renata, I'll have to add Nine West to my saved vegan bags search on Endless. Thanks!

Finally you found one, I hope you get it because it's beautiful!

Steph, I feel pretty confident about it. Zappos is usually good at identifying mixed materials, and I can't imagine it would make sense in this case to have leather bits anywhere, since the texture would be so similar. It would just be odd. But I will inspect thoroughly to make sure.

Thanks Maya! I just realized the style you posted is cross-body (which I should have guessed, since you are looking for a cross-body bag!), so I started looking for that same line in different styles. I have found it in a few places, and all list the material as patent leather. My guess is Zappos is right and they are wrong (one site was a random purse site I have never heard of, the other was ebay, and sellers are always wrong there), but just giving you a heads up.

If you can confirm for me that it is vegan when you receive it, I am totally buying this one:

Hmm, Steph, I just saw this and now I am very bothered.

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/3058910

They couldn't really get my hopes up and then disappoint me could they?

I'm going to make a phone call...

Oh no. I have been super happy after finding the handled version on ebay, but I have a feeling it's not going to end well. I swear, I have contemplated starting my own vegan shoe and bag line just so I can get what I want.

That looks like a great bag Maya. Hope it works out for you

I called Zappos and they did their best to figure it out, including calling Kate Spade on my behalf, but not even they know their own merchandise!

She said all of the information comes direct from the manufacturer though, so I am not sure.

I'll get it on Wednesday, but I am not feeling optimistic

I just remembered Sara and mamark have the bag you're considering, Steph, or at least one similar to it in the same tutti fruitti material. Wonder if they'll see this and shed some light. Sigh. Getting the material wrong just isn't like Zappos.

I wish you would start your own line. I would buy from it!

Have you tried out these vegan stores? Sounds like it might have some options for you:

And maybe this designer (from Seattle):

Maya, a friend who also only purchases vegan purses told me that she has had a lot of success e-mailing Kate Spade's customer service with questions about purse materials. I'm going to send them an e-mail now and I'll report back.

Maya, a friend just sent me this site--another vegan bag source. If you see a shape you like, click on the bag, because it appears that several of these have detachable straps with a cross-body strap option, so it might not appear to be a cross-body from the initial photo, but will have the capability.

Steph, I think by the time you get an email response, I will have received the bag.

Kate Spade said they didn't know, but maybe your rep will be more knowledgeable. The fact that they didn't unequivocally say "no, we never use synthetic" is really my only hope, but other than that, I'm pessimistic. It was on sale, but originally the price was just as high as any other similar KS bag. In my moment of bag lust, I apparently lost my brain. There were many warning flags that I just completely overlooked.

Oh, I also found this:

Not looking too good. I'm searching Zappos for an exchange as we speak.

Kate Drives me absolutely batty. SO many of her gorgeous bags are ruined with a leather trim. WHY? I guess I'll just have to hope for a Kate Spade for Target line...

Checking your link now!

Cathy, I'm familiar with most vegan shopping sites. Mooshoes is here on the Lower East Side. I have bought belts there in the past. Very fab store.

Maya, I heard back from Kate Spade. It was pretty funny. I had given her the name of the line and the name of the style, and asked what materials it was made of. She responded by telling me she would be happy to help if I provided a style number. Here's what gets me: who is in a better position to find the style number? Kate Spade, when given the style name (I am sure they must have a database that matches style names with style numbers), or the customer? I called Zappos and they were able to get me the style number, so I have e-mailed it back to Kate Spade and am awaiting a response.

I'm hoping I hear back tomorrow. Even if you have the bag, it might not help. In my experience, she doesn't label her bags with the materials, so whenever I go into the store I have to ask the salesperson what it is made of. It's really frustrating.

Oh Steph, I appreciate you helping me get to the bottom of this. And really, I'm shocked at how, uh, OFF the ball Kate Spade is about their own merchandise. If all else fails I suppose I could just go to the Soho store. My friend's family lives directly above it, so I would have an excuse to drop by...

That's very odd about the labeling. I thought there was a legal requirement to state the materials somewhere, but perhaps not.

I had to laugh when I read this review. For most people, it would be extremely offputting and disappointing...but her description of it being "like cheap plastic" gives me hope, even though she says it is real leather (if it isn't labeled, how would she know?).

Yes, Maya, I read the same review today and was thinking "oh, maybe it felt like cheap plastic because it is!" No need to thank me--I really, really want the purse in the hand held style, so I'm doing it for myself as well! Nothing else I have seen in forever that is a non-leather possibility is nearly as cute or as me.
