I posted this as a near-miss in Una's Shoptoberfest thread.

I still think the side view is a little much for me, yet I can't stop thinking about it. The crispness paired with the surrendered waist, tailored shoulders, dramatic v of the collar...

Has anyone spied something like this but a little toned down in volume?

Or would you think there is a way to take in the back a smidge without killing it?

I can see what you don't like about the side view. It's kind of "tent-y" while Deb's has a nice drape. I'm guessing you'll find something that's perfect if you keep looking.

Hmm, I think it either needs to be shorter or longer. I agree, at this length the side view is awkward. I haven't seen any though.

I have something this shape but it's cracked "patent" and kind of crisp floaty.
The pic you're showing suggests a heaviness of the fabric. I can't see that a heavy trapeze shape is useful in any way.

The pictures I posted are two different jackets. One is grey with short sleeves and the other is black with 3/4 sleeves. The black one is a ponte knit and the grey is a suiting fabric.

Vildy, this one is neoprene. It is light weight but I would not say floaty. Any ideas on the alterations question?

Can you purchase then take to tailor to see what they say. If it will not work then you can return it.

Ok, voice of reason. Given your history with non breathable fabrics I think you need to step away from the neoprene.

Hm, that is something to think about, Diana. It was loosefitting enough that there was lots of airflow. But I did not think to run around in it as if I were testing a coat.

I like it from the front. I guess the more times I look at it, the more I'm getting used to it. The comment about the neoprene makes sense, though. Maybe take it home and leave the tags on and wear it around a bit to see if you're comfortable?

Somehow, I can't wrap my mind around that collar and neoprene being combined in a swing jacket; seems really discordant. With your more than strong preference for breathability, I can't imagine neoprene working for you. My vote is to keep looking for something worthy of you as I'm not sure any alteration would be successful.

Alright, there is obviously a reason it did not come home. You all have talked me out of it... letting the sleeping dogs lie, and I will wear my navy blazer and be happy.
