This top is super funky, not my usual style...but something about it..

....just draws me in!

What do you think of this top? I've been looking at it for a while....it's kinda pricey so I'm not likely to buy it, but am I crazy, or why do I like it so much? It's certainly not very minimal, or solid as I usually like....I do really like the color combo, and I don't know why I guess living in Canada (and at one point Labrador) makes me drawn to the ice berg motif?

OK, don't kill me, but for some reason it makes me think of the Abominable Snowman from Rudolph!

All right, now I'm trying to look at it without that association. I like the idea of it -- the contrasting prints, the color scheme... And as you may know if you saw my arctic photos, I am a HUGE fan of icebergs. But there is something about the cut that makes me think of either scrubs or pajamas.

Janet - no worries...the little dudes by the icebergs remind me of the abominable from Rudolph too! I had the same thought!

Suz - I like the cut of the T, but I'm not sure about he zigzag where the patterns meet.

Anyway, it's more of a wonder for me than a possible purchase....I can't figure out why I like it....I shouldn't really, based on my usual style.....but I do....WHY?

Rae, I understand! I often find myself drawn to things that are not in my current style rubric, so when that happens, I try to stop and analyze 1) what it is that attracts me, 2) whether it would play well with the rest of my wardrobe, and 3) whether I would actually *wear* it -- that is often the clincher. Sometimes it seems I admire something but don't actually reach for it when dressing. Other times it seems such an item is a bit of a kick in the seat for my style so I don't get stuck in a rut.

Because it's kind of suggestive of the top being dipped in frosting or something? I always assume there's a hidden agenda to try to trigger the part of my brain that likes dessert...

Good points Janet. I think I'm really drawn to the color combo. And I really loved that Rudolph movie as a kid (and still now), so maybe that's it too!

SusanH - that's funny, I never thought of that! I do love my desserts though!

I like it too. But I would also need to see it on you.

For me, at least, it is a very happy shirt. It just reminds me of FUN. The colors are great and I like the zig zag and solid lower half.

I think it's a very retro slash modern slash boho look that would look perfect with skinnies or leggings.. with a nice chuknky necklace, or minimal jewels... as you wish. What I love about it that even though it's very loud blouse, I think it's a statement piece, in a demure kind of way.
I love it, I would personally go for it!

It is fun, pattern mixing already built in to the blouse. I guess I would hesitate to buy something so trendy if it is really pricy. Would need to see it on you to make a final call.

I find that I do this with a lot of "statement" pieces - I'm drawn to them, but then when I try to wear them, I feel more clownish than "me". I'm still working through whether to avoid pieces that push me like that, or just to avoid them, since they often end up orphans anyway.

Amiable - I am thinking very much like you...I'm not sure what to do when I find those awkward pieces I'm drawn to, and have a big potential to become orphans.

I'm sure you can look cute in anything, and could style this with a slim skirt or pants, but I'm not lovin' this. Reminds me of pj's and of cloud-printed sheets. I'd say, move on.

Maybe it's just the fun element that is calling to you. Or the freshness of the colours. Or a bit of both.

I understand you're not going to buy it, but it is fun to figure out why something is calling to us, isn't it? I get saved from those items by muttering "Imaginary Lifestyle" and moving on...

I see what Janet and Unfrumped see, but I get the question of why we can be drawn to things that are clearly not our usual style. Don't have an answer, but I get the question lol!

JR - that's good, I like that...haha...I will have to recall that when I have another moment like this.

Mo - I don't know the answer either. I think in this case I really like the colors. And black and white with a bit of ice blue IS my style, so maybe I should use it as inspiration.

RR, that can be a good way to deconstruct it and find an item that will work better. I find I am superinfluenced by color and by contrast--so I will be tempted to get something that looks a certain way even if it's not a good fabric or fit or will be as wearable. If I can catch what it is I'm drawn to it is easier to put back and look for a better iteration.
