I love that ruffle. And now the top's on sale. But I'm practically wearing the exact same outfit in this picture.

I need to sit on my hands and dream of the edgy denim jacket/citron scarf/citron bag/winter hat that will someday find me...

Do you find yourself lusting after items you already have? Why do we DO that to ourselves?

Is it the item or the image that you're lusting after?

I occasionally lust after things that I already have, but it's usually because the item isn't perfect and I'm not willing to admit it to myself. But if the item *is* perfect, maybe the issue is that you want to look like / style it like the model in the photo?

I rather like your top better, actually I think it is redundant unfortunately, but if you needed another sleeveless top in a different color it could work.

Freckles, good point. I have many red skirts, too, but I haven't paid much for any of them, and they are at least different lengths, silhouettes, and textures.

Charmian, I *think* that I 1) want to replicate success I've had with this color and 2) feel internal pressure to get citron items while they are around, since it's a color that isn't popular every season. But I guess it's probably better to hold out for something citron that isn't just like what I already have.

I don't know for sure, but I have a hunch that the top you're lusting after is way less flattering in real life. Extra fabric like that always makes me look a lot bigger than I am from the side because it doesn't lie flat. The top you have is also WAY more versatile!

Sometimes, like Charmian, I lust after the more perfect version of something I already have. Other times I just don't see something I already have the same way that I see the item I'm lusting after, even though they're quite similar. Usually it's being worn in a way that I wouldn't have otherwise thought to wear it, and I can actually use that experience to increase my remixing possibilities!

I completely agree with Kate's reasoning, but I totally understand your reasons for still considering it.

Is your top in great condition, so you know it should be around for a while? They ARE different lengths, and I can get fussy about which I can wear with skirts vs pants, or clams vs. jeans,

I'm really NOT trying to talk you into it, but great citron items are a treasure

yes I definitely do this! I have more LBD than I know what to do with...I really get pulled in by sundresses/casual dresses though. I have waaay too many. I really want to be one of those people that invests in a small number of quality items and mixes and matches them...

we want things we already have because we're addicted to the high of buying things. we already know it will look good on us, so we buy it so we can have the "high" of buying something we know without the shadow of a doubt will look gorgeous on us. it's the shopping addict's "win-win" scenario.

I like your top, it's more versatile to layer with because it's not asymmetric in the front with the collar. I am awful at repeating items, one reason why my closet puts me on team blue, I always reach for blue first!

I don't know. I am detail-oriented so this top is not the same to me. The one you have is a classic shape and this one is more arty. Even if you wear it the same way, it gives the outfit a slightly different look. Your current outfit is more about the color combination to me, and with the other top it would also be about the cut. That's just the way I see it.

I do this all. the. time. I'll buy something and then find out I have the exact same thing in my closet already.

But I tend to agree with Scarlet that this is NOT the EXACT same top. It's got a little bolder cut. Plus, if you love citron and like to wear it a lot, I don't necessarily see a problem in having multiple items in that color.

I always do that too!! Sometimes I regret it...but other times I've been glad I did. I guess it just depends on whether you wear the item enough to actually use two of them. Or if they might serve slightly different purposes

Exactly what Scarlet and MaryK said. It looks different to me. And what is wrong with having more citron items?

Does the top inspire you to wear this look/color in new ways?

The problem with having a "list" of what you really "need" is that I, at least, rarely find that perfect thing I'm looking for. Whereas if you see something that strikes you as perfect, but you haven't thought of needing it yet, may help you evolve your style. Of course within reason. You don't want to have 10 citron tops.

I feel a little guilty for enabling you!

Update: came home from a day out and checked on it one more time. All but sold out, and I all but had a panic attack... but they had my size left... plus I realized I still have CC reward $ since my bag didn't use up all $250.

So it's ordered, and I feel pretty good about it. Mary, Coco, and Angie had me picturing it in work outfits, and as others pointed out my current shirt isn't keep-forever quality. Go Team Citron!
