THIS OUTFIT...A Keeper?

Hi Ladies,

This is a patterned wrap dress. Base color is brown (a color I rarely wear). Worn over bootleg trousers with a 40's style T bar sandal. I also pop a cropped little textured jacket over it if I need extra warmth.

I keep accessories to a minimum with a ring with coloured stones and little drop pearl earrings.

I don't really re-mix much on this one as I prefer the dress over pants.

All these items have been in my closet for a few years. I do like this outfit but is it passed its "use by" date?

As always I really appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.

I love the concept of the outfit but I think it may work better with skinny jeans or jeggings? Because the dress is quite long it finishes almost at the point where the volume of the jeans begins, cropped leggings could also look great with the dress if you're after more leg coverage than hose x

There is something quite edgy about wearing this type of volume over volume - although you have some structure on top. You look fab in the dress, Deborah! Try it over ankle length leggings too.

I really love the dress over the flares! It looks fresh to me (seconding Angie's thoughts about it being edgy--dresses over looser pants were on the runways, and they are popping up on fashion blogs too). It's weird: for some reason I am not digging those particular shoes with the pants...not sure why...Are the pants maybe a teeny bit too short? Somehow I'm picturing some sleek booties with this look, but that's just my personal preference.

Inspired by you, I am going to be wearing a silk tunic I have over my wide-legged black pants!

Angie, ooh me a bit edgy:) I do quite like the silhouette of this outfit. I will try ankle length leggings, do you think brown leggings would be the way to go? There is a tiny bit of balck in the dress. I was wondering about cropped leggings also and a flat shoe??

Jonesy, I am humbled to have given you even a tiny bit of inspiration. Hope to see the outfit. It may be the way I am standing, but the pants skim the floor, but I might see what other shoes would work. I don't own any booties... yet

I'm surprising myself by liking the dress over the bootleg trousers, but I see what Jonesy is saying about the shoes. Maybe a pointier toe rather than rounded? I think it would be fun to see with leggings too. Just out of curiosity - why don't you like the dress on its own?

I don't know if it was clear, but I like the combination of bootcut with this dress Deborah! The torso definition and low contrast between the top and the bottom make it work to my eye.

Deborah, I am beginning to think that you can do no wrong! Every outfit you post is beautiful, uber-chic, and/or extremely interesting. This really works, to my eye, and yet I scratch my head and wonder HOW. Do you mind my asking how tall you are?

I also like the suggestions to try the dress alone or with leggings/skinnies and flats.

I had a similar feeling to Jonesy's about the shoes...I think it has something to do with the shape of the cutouts (if that is what they are) and/or the toe, but I'm not completely sure. It is a minor thing, and may be a function of this being a still photo; IRL they may actually look wonderful with the trousers in motion.

Angie, thank you for popping back. Yes I did understand and I am so pleased you think this works because I really like it I was just considering the leggings as an alternate option.

Suz, how lovely are you! I don't mind you asking at at all... I am a pipsqueak at 5ft 1& a bit inches. Reviewing how the shoes look in the photo I agree they are probably not the best and a pointed toe would probably work better (shame I just got rid of a pair of shoes that probably would have been perfect)... oh well may be I will have to buy new ones lol

Ordinarily I don't love dresses or tunics worn over boot cuts because it can be too much volume on volume; However, I like it here because the dress is cut close enough to your body and totally similar enough to your bootcuts that I think it works. Quite a pretty dress! But yes, leggings and skinniest would definitely work with the dress to.

This lovely print looks so good on you. I especially like the way its pale flowers echo the blond of your hair. I was surprised to learn your height as you look tall in this outfit.

Excellent outfit, Deborah!! I am completely behind Angie and all the other positive opinion posters on this one. The dress over the boot cut jeans is super flattering, and edgy enough to look "stylin' "!!. Now, I know some are going to say I'm very biased about looks such as this because it's my signature look, but that's cool, too.

As for the comments on too much volume, I would reply by saying the dress defines your waist nicely before flaring out in the skirt portion. Similarly, you are wearing a bootcut jean as opposed to a wide leg. I would agree with the too much volume camp, ( there are enough teams here, now) if the dress fell straight from the shoulders, and was worn over wide leg jeans. The only things I would try differently would be the hem length of the dress and your footwear. To show the thigh hugging jeans, I would wear a mid thigh hem dress, or there about, and a pair of sexy high heel boots, further lengthening the leg line. I would also suggest you try skinnies tucked into knee high boots. If that works for you, wonderful, but personally, I prefer the silhouette of the boot cut jeans.

You've gotten some high praise from Angie on this one, but I think with a little tweaking, you'll get her "Killer" evaluation for sure.

I like the dress, it suits you 'not past it use by date' . Looks great with the bootleg trousers, enjoy having a play with the leggings too, maybe with ballet shoes

5"1 I can't believe it!! You dress so well and are so attuned to your proportions. I would have thought you 3 inches taller than I am , not 3 less.

I really like the outfit, but it would be worth trying the other combinations for some variety.
