I finally received (more than 2 weeks to ship = crazy) a lovely slouchy cashmere modified vneck sweater from Everlane. I had been looking for red, but wasn't seeing anything I liked. This caught my eye, mostly for the styling, but also for what I expected to be a rosier, pinkier red. It is most certainly not "rose" (as they called it), but is exactly the new "marsala" colour.

I remember being slightly horrified and giving a firm "blech" response to whoever first posted about the new Pantone shade for 2015 and was so disappointed when I opened the Everlane package. The colour just did not look appealing at all. I figured I'd have to return it, and was kind of discouraged about that whole process. Well, I tried it on, and it is so wonderfully soft and not itchy and fit so beautifully, I figured I give it a go and keep it. I wore it out the other day with black bottoms, a leopard print brocade coat . and black boots with heavy gold buckles. I was really excited when I found a new NARS lipstick (Catfight) that I had forgotten I bought (yes, I'm an idiot that way) that worked perfectly with the sweater colour. The whole effect was rich, yet muted and soft. So, so unexpected, but proof that sometimes these odd colours are perfect bases for a whole look. A brighter red would have been too much with this coat - and I am now actually glad I didn't find a real red sweater. I have trouble wearing dark or bright lipstick too, and this new colour gave my face the lift it needed too. So, here's to a bit of marsala love.

p.s. I think it suits a luxe fabric though - anything cottony will look washed out.
