This look, yay or nay?

The elements are pretty classic except for the black booties. I can't decide if I like it. The black booties look a little harsh to my eye, but I couldn't say it looks bad or unflattering.

Your description is about exactly what I would say. It's not bad or unflattering (she has very slender legs) but it does look harsh on her, and without the sunglasses might even look unbalanced. However, if she had dark hair, it might look striking and great!

Love the dress and the shades but the coat and boots aren't doing it for me. They look thrown on and not in a good way.

I agree with your assessment. Like Suz said, the sunglasses help but the black is a bit harsh anyway.

It's just so hard for blondes to wear black shoes. This has been my most important fashion lesson of the year, I think. That said, her sunglasses help to bookend them, and if she had dark hair, then problem solved! Otherwise, I love the look.

It only works so long as she keeps the glasses on. Headbands are showing up again. Maybe if she sported a wide, dark headband. She wouldn't have to take that off when she entered a building and wished to be polite.

Yay from me! The massive black bag and the black buttons on the trench help to integrate the black booties, IMHO.

I love this! It is classic (dress and trench), minimal (sunglasses only accessories) and RATE (hair, bare legs and black booties). I like the combination of khaki with orange -- very on trend. I don't see why blondes can't wear black footwear?

I think this has a very cool sort of mod sensibility to it, and I actually like the black accents (bag, buttons, shades, boots) but I agree it may not work if she removes the shades.

I love it. The trench takes away from the orange and black combo, and the sunglasses bookend the boots. Agree that with her light hair, the sunglasses are what make the look. Wonder if I could try this with MY orange lace dress and the quilted booties, or is the orange dress too springy?

I like the orange and khaki together and, at first, I thought the black booties were harsh with her bare legs, but upon further viewing, I began to like it and I think that the other black elements (bag and sunglasses) really does help to balance the look. Scarlet, are you going for it and Una, why don't you give it a try? I want to see both of your versions.

I like it quite a bit. As some of the others have pointed out, the black booties are echoed by the dark glasses and buttons, and the colour of the trench ties in with her blond hair.

Really interesting to read everyone's thoughts. After looking at the photo more and reading the comments this look is really growing on me. I think even if she wore just the dress and shoes indoors one could think of it as color blocking in a way.

Vicki, I confess, I am playing keep or return with some similar booties, so I am thinking if I would ever wear them with a summer dress.

One summer I was in a mood and wore black and brown booties all season long.
Even though I'm blond, I often have lots of black elements in my clothing - color in a print, slim patent belt, etc.

I was recently looking at some videos of Jennifer Robin's (Growing More Beautiful author). She's a painter as well as a stylist and she was advising to use your full length mirror as though it were a canvas. You wanted the eye to travel around and end up back at the face and not to stop dead at the shoes, say.

I like the look conceptually, but not on her with those colors. Her light hair and overall outfit just make the boots "out of place". I agree with the others that if she had dark hair or a dark coat, it would be better. Or sand colored boots, too.

That shade of orange with the black has too strong of an association with Halloween decorations for me to like the look here.

Even though the model shows the black bag balancing the black booties I don't love the booties with this look. I would have preferred a light colored handbag and light colored booties with it.
