This long cardi: your opinion?

I have always shied away from long cardigans -- they have always seemed too unstructured for my style and too overwhelming for my frame. But in my job, like many of you, I often get cold, and a blazer is not always the right answer for an outfit. So I am thinking about getting one this year as a practical addition to my work capsule.

What do you think of this one from BR? (Currently 50% off as part of friends and family.) And it comes in light gray, marled gray/black, and black. Any thoughts?

I like it for just a general sweater (except for how long the sleeves are) but Glamine? Not so sure it's that, or anything terribly interesting or special. It would be great for puttering around the house, but I don't think you'd feel as put together as you would want in a work situation. I think you want something more fitted through the shoulder area, no? Sorry for being honest . I;m off to BR myself this morning waving my 50% off code

The drop sleeve makes this one much more unstructured than it could be. A simple set-in sleeve will be a lot more tailored looking without sacrificing comfort or drape.

There are some denim gauchos on the website that I couldn't find to actually buy (their site is pretty dumb I have to say ) and a print blouse I like. We'll see .

My issue with a lot of long cardigans is what my husband calls the bathrobe effect. I think they need some sort of structured detail (for lack of a better term) to help prevent that. For instance, the one long cardigan I own is grey but has black faux leather details on the lower sleeve and on the pockets (which also helps it fall into my style a bit better than just a plain long cardigan). It also has a slightly shaped waist, which for me, really helps keep something from looking too overwhelming or frumpy. If I can find an example, I'll post it.

Hmm, I could see it worn casually just with jeans, but it doesn't seem quite right for an office type situation, as you mentioned. As Janet said, something with a little more structure somewhere in the design may suit you better.

It really depends on what it looks like ON the body. Could be fab. Could be bath-robe.

I don't think it's a client / facilitator meeting sweater.

It could be a home office sweater. I like all the grey and black sweaters, or that's how it seems sometimes.

Of course when we get into coat weather, if you wanted that under a coat to go out, it would need to be under a long coat.

viva, I got this BR textured high-low (the Find wasn't working) because I wanted something that was as long in back as some high-low tops, didn't always want them sticking out, but wanted something less overwhelming. Plus the pale color allowed me to mix with various grays that were hard to match.

I just came back from a quick trip to the BR store to see what was worth picking up with the FF discount. I came home empty handed. Didn't have even half of the new stock on the website in the store yet. The sweater was there - just ok, nothing special. Definitely not polished enough for you for work.
