Am I the only one watching the runway shows at NY, London, Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks?

We are on Paris now - last leg. I am champing at the bit to see Chanel and Valentino.

I'm having some Joan Collins Dynasty flashbacks. Now I sound old. I kind of like #1, but would have to translate for my suburban life.

Una I was actually thinking this is your time to shine! Your natural silhouette (though not nearly as pronounced as this ) as you see it is in!

I know, Joy! The scarier part is how we doubled up our shoulder pads in 1985 to create this look.

I so remember those doubled up shoulder pads and thought my hips looked tiny by comparison. What were we thinking?!

Whoa. My shoulders are plenty broad enough without this kind of enhancement! Although I can appreciate the artistic value of these looks, I really don't want to re-visit this aspect of 80's fashion.

Oh dear. LOL. The problem with these shoulders is that you have to have the fierce hair to balance it all out. And I am NOT revisiting that look again.

Oh my. I hope it doesn't catch on. Or at least that it gets toned down. I don't mind a little shoulder pad action, because it makes it less obvious that the shoulders don't fit me too well (and they almost never do) but that is going from the sublime to the ridiculous.

My apologies to all the fashion-forward people: these shows tend to evoke more shuddering than enthusiasm from me. So I don't watch them.

I haven't had any time to watch any shows - I just read about them in the NYT. Not quite the same, and I do find Cathryn Horyn a bit annoying at times (her tone is just a bit OTT). Those are some seriously structured shoulders - just what I need to mask my sloping ones!

Now that's a strong shoulder line. Holy-moley. I wasn't wearing shoulder pads the first time around, having been a young'in, but have to confess that I find the silhouette very very appealing. Is that so wrong?

I am having flashbacks, too...

I'm not against all things 80s by any means. But when you are on the shorter side, these shoulders are tricky to wear without looking like my highschool boyfriend in his football uniform.

I kinda love that top in #5 if it were toned down to a more wearable proprtion. Although I suppose *that* would make my hips look downright tiny in comparison to the shoulders!

You *know* I am checking out every show :). Ariadne, most of the shows are posted on style.com and vogue.com, and many are on fabsugar.com (these are the outlets I know about--probably plenty more). Sometimes the shows are shown live, but usually each show is shown as a series of still shots that you scroll through.

Yes, this is quite the Shoulder Statement.

I actually look really good in big shoulder pads. Balances out the hips. I say bring on the 80s football-style shoulder pads. They don't scare me!!

Angie, I layered too. Had a cami with removable shoulder pads, and wore it under blouses and blazers ... both of which had shoulder pads, of course. I think 3 layers was the best I ever did. Is there some sort of Recovering Shoulder Pad Layering support group we can join?
