Guess I'll stick to more indy designers. Though I'm disappointed in Camilla Skovgaard, she used to make shoes in Italy, now she switched to China and increased her prices. I have some earlier shoes by her that were made in Italy.

I know what you mean. Even Frye boots are saying Made in China.

The irony being that labor costs in China must be a fraction of what they'd have been in Italy.

I'm still feeling residual guilt over the Giveables I bought some months back...the most I've ever spent on shoes and nowhere near the amounts being quoted. I just trash shoes the way I wear them; I don't think I could go past this mental price barrier. I don't understand it either.

The other irony is that labour costs are rising fast in China but production can't be moved back because the manufacturing base in Italy has been wiped out. Therefore, we have the higher prices, but without the Italian craftsmanship.

Oh, definitely that too. And then you'd be wondering if your shoes from the Chinese factory had lead or some other bizarre, unhealthy substance in them!
