This cute little jacket..or is it?

I have mixed feelings on this. I would like to have a cozy knit jacket, and I don't have anything military yet(!), so it seems like a good idea to combine the two.

This looks nice on the Tulle model, but it was sold out:

So I did a search and found it here, but it looks shapeless and kind of shabby on this model:

At first I thought it was just too big for her but it seems ok from the side so I'm not sure.

I don't really need any more woven jackets, assuming the Kenna T blazer Kim sends me works--which I am assuming. This would fill a gap but this looks a little bedraggled in the second picture and I'm not sure if it's just the unflattering fit, this specific jacket itself, or the nature of knit jackets just doesn't suit me...?

I think it's cute but I don't know much about knit jackets and their fit. I don't think any knit jacket will have the polished look of a woven one though. They always look a bit like a dressy sweatshirt to me.

I think that model is just not filling out the jacket at all. I still think it has potential.

ETA: but I am of course all about the dressy sweatshirt.

knit jackets/blazers are so comfy!

I agree with Scarlet that the 2nd model isn't filling out the jacket, so I wouldn't rule it out.

I agree with Lisa. I think it's the knit factor. While comfy and cute, knit always seems very casual. That said, it's a cute jacket, and I like to "kill two birds with one stone."

I think you'd just have to try it on to see for sure if it will work for you. I find it so hard to tell in photos, because you don't know how they've pinned/taped/otherwise adjusted to make the garment look its best (though they didn't take enough pains with the second photo, imo).

I don't really care if it's casual or not polished. My entire style is casual and not polished. But I don't want to look shabby either. Maybe it's the terry material rather than the fact that it's a knit. A knit in another material might be better.

The Ambition Double Placket Jacket from the NAS is a terry (http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/30.....erralID=NA) and I think it's great. So I'm not convinced that it's the fabric.

Is there a way for you to go try it on and see how it looks on you?

I also have some great jackets out of this type of material material. I don't think it is the material.

I vote shabby :(. The hoody material would drive me batty. It looks like it's going to lose its shape after the first wash.

I agree about it possibly losing shape... I think that kind of knit material needs to be pretty defined in shape to look casual but still not shabby, if you know what I mean. The jacket seems pretty boxy and stretchy, not a good combo...

I'm not sure....I would worry about it fading and losing its *blackness* since it's 100% cotton (usually a little Lycra or nylon will help black stay black, in my experience). But if this doesn't bother you then it's no big deal. The style is certainly cute. Would you wear it open or closed?

Hmm, I was originally thinking open but it probably looks better closed. This is a conflict I've been facing with most military-somethings.

I think I'll pass. I'd be willing to try if it was around half the price, but I don't think it's worth $62.

I have a very structured knit jacket from Forever 21 of all places, and it has held up well. It is a VERY tight and heavier knit. I think this one will depend on if it's more sweatshirt-like or heavy ponte-like, if that makes any sense. If the former, it may veer into shabby after a few wears.

Hmm . . . I'm not crazy about his. To me, it already looks shabby in the photograph, so I don't think it would hold up well at all. Bet you can find something better!

I just bought dd a really cute knit millitary style jacket at Target (Converse One Star brand). It looks adorable open, and it's casual but very crisp, too. Let me see if I can find it online........

Hi All!
Just happened to notice this conversation about an item in our store and I'm enjoying the critical feedback. I'm curious why some of the users here think it looks raggedy in this photo - is it the styling? I compared it to the Tulle photo and one of the main differences is that the sleeves are not rolled up, but pressed straight and also looks impeccably ironed. We are a brand new store and have only had 2 photo shoots so far so we are always looking for feedback and suggestions!

FFC, I don't think it has anything to do with the photography or styling. I think it might just be the nature of the fabric and possibly the way it fits the model. The description says she is wearing a size S, but I would be curious to see if an XS fits her better. It just looks like she isn't filling it out as much as the Tulle model.

It's also terry, which is basically sweatshirt material. I still think it's a cute jacket, but just perhaps too casual for my purposes.

Congrats on starting up the new store. It looks like you have some cute stuff there!

Thanks Maya, appreciate the response. That makes sense - I think it is definitely meant to be more of a cozy casual jacket. That's funny that you mention the XS because we forgot that we had it until after the shoot *groan*. Obviously we are still getting our bearings, but it has been incredibly fun!

I was at Nordstrom's Rack yesterday and they had a ton of cute military jackets. Just sayin'...

They did, but they're all woven. I tried on one by Halogen and it was huge in the shoulders, even in the smallest size.

I think I'm looking for one that's more like a structured ponte knit.

Maya, in my black jacket thread is a ponte knit military jacket from F21 (I wasn't sure if I wanted to really invest in the trend at the time). It is remarkably well-made for the price, although like everything there it's made for the flat of chest. I wear it open and it looks fine.

I'm a big fan of knit jackets. The one chewy posted was in our Target, but I was in too much of a hurry to try it on. I might have to go back. I'd love to try on the Tulle one as well. It seems what I do most on this forum is get ideas of things I need to buy.
