This coat is calling to me...

In the "wine" color, I'm finding this breathtaking: http://www.talbots.com/online/.....e=cat70010

I'm pretty close to convincing myself that returning the Only Mine zipper-back sweater ($69) gives me the budget to purchase this coat ($269).

This is the kind of math I do when I see something beautiful.

I love that coat and had I not purchased the cobalt Kenneth Cole coat at NAS I would get it. Hmm.. Maybe when it is on sale.

I saw it a day ago and the Riding Red won't leave me alone.
It's the cut and the color and the styling that I saw. Ivory turtleneck, jeans, black riding boots, red classic coat.

Shannon, just to be clear, I did return the sweater because I knew the zipper hanging askew would bother me too much.

Hmm... do I "need" a classic coat in a swoony, on-trend color? On the one hand, nooo...no more, that is, than people need delicious, visually appealing meals instead of gruel.

On the other hand, I have not bought a winter coat in several years, and both of my woolen coats are neutrals (chocolate brown and grey).

Haven't had a new coat in years? I say go for it! It is the color of the season, but it is also a wonderful neutral that also happens to be a color that never really disappears.

Rae, let's not kid ourselves -- I have bought any number of outerwear items, including a cream puffer coat for really cold days, I merely haven't bought a woolen cloth winter coat in a while.

Debora -- no, you're so right, I never got The Very Expensive Coat. Do I regret that? Enough that I occasionally check eBay for one.

As it happens, I'll be downtown today and will nip into the store and see if they have it on display.

UPDATE: Talbot's did not have the coat on display -- too early in the season. I asked if they had *anything* in the "wine" color, just so I could see if it was as beautiful as it looks on my monitor, but alas, it's one of their upcoming fall colors and was not yet visible in the store.

April- So from what your found out today at Talbots, the coat will show up in the stores at some point?
The description says talbots.com only. I guess from what you've learned that's just for now. That's good news, I want to try it on in a store too.

JB -- they didn't say the coat would appear in stores, only that *something* in the wine color would be arriving (it's prominent among their fall offerings).

Come to think of it, I have not usually seen coats in the real stores. Probably take up too much space.
