I'm trying to build my boot wardrobe and with so many styles and colors to choose from now, I'm having a hard time making a desicion on what to add to my closet.

If you could only have 2 pairs of boots, what type or style and what color would you choose?

Good question and one that I'll need to actively answer soon!

For me a black heeled pair would be crucial. My dream other pair would also probably have a modest heel but be in a fun colour, red or plum or something.
I tend to favour sleak-fitting boots for my style, so they'd probably both shun the slouch trend.

I think I'm jsut like you, Michelle. I bought a slouchy pair at the NAS. The light tan suede uggs that Angie recommended. But I hate to waste my $$ on a pair I won't wear to death. I have a pair of riding style boots in black that I love, very classic. I guess that is my preferred style. I haven't worn the Uggs yet, I'm thinking I might exchange them for a sleaker style like you mentioned.

Bella-Yes, gray I think would be the perfect color, even more so than brown, what pair did you get?

I think that might be able to wear these babies to death and be carefree in bad weather ( rain or snow)

My second choice would be a pair of cognac boots ( any length - I prefer knee length) I find cognac to be a very versatile color but harder to wear in bad weather though.

A sophisticated, sleek pair in cognac, with a delicate heel - to wear with dresses and more formal outfits.

A brown pair with a wedge heel - for more practical every-day use. Probably chestnut brown. I have yet to find such a boot. My current is chocolate brown.

I would not go with black. 1) because my hair is blonde (if you have dark hair, that's a different story) and 2) I like the contrast/interest of a different color boot with black skirts, dresses, pants. I do have a pair of black boots but I get the least amount of use out of them. (Probably doesn't help they are suede - which rules out wearing them during any sort of messy weather).

I had two pairs only last winter, and I did just fine. One was a black cowboy-ish flat boot, and the other a chestnut-ty brown one-inch heeled riding boot. Both were tall boots which was perfect because I am too.

This spring I added a calf-height tan perforated suede boot, and this fall I just got a pair of grey calf-height heeled boots with some funky buckles. But those are definitely additions on top of my base two.

Depends on your lifestyle.

I wore to death a pair of low heeled riding style boots I got on sale last year. (We have snow from November to May around here) When I go out I do a ton of walking so high heeled boots are not for me.

So for me they have to be comfy first, with my being able to walk around for hours at a time in them. That rules out alot of boots for me right away! LOL

What will you be doing in said boots?

While I cannot recommend Target boots per se (they are not very durable), I would recommend this style for two reasons: 1) the color was very versatile and went wih blacks, grays, as well as navy, purple, blue, etc. 2) The shape of the boot allowed for wearing them both with skinny jeans and dresses.

I would definitely invest in a quality pair in this style if I had the money.

Mmm, I don't think I can be a minimalist when it comes to boots. I will say that I get the most wear out of my tall cognac boots and tall black riding style boots because they work with skirts and with skinnies. They are both pretty classic in style and have a low heel.

Can't even fathom only two pairs of boots. But, if your lifestyle is casual I'd say flat riding boots in black and brown (or grey if wardrobe is mostly cool toned). If your need to dress up from time to time I'd say black flats and heeled.

I'm not sure if the boots you posted are a shade of brown or grey but I own a very similar pair in black . I was able to get them at a very good deal ( about $60 ish - Last winter). I thought about sharing this info. with you. You might want to keep an eye on these babies! The quality is really good, the black pair I own are made of a very good quality pebbled leather. I am not sure if the fabrication will vary by color).

I'd have a pair each of knee high riding boots with low heel or wedge in black or grey and in brown leather with a 14 inch calf that allows me to wear them with skirts, with jeans tucked in or under straight or bootcuts.
The closest I've come to this is the Aerosole Elasticity boot but hope to upgrade to a better quality and leather.

Last winter, I had a low-heeled black and a low-heeled brown (both knee high) that I wore a lot. I have dark hair so these worked perfectly for me. I also had a low-heeled grey mid-calf pair that I didn't wear as much as I thought I would. Maybe this year I'll get more wear out of them.

During the year, I added 2 pair of heeled boots that I haven't integrated into my wardrobe yet. I'm waiting for cooler weather.

2 boots only hmm...Ok one pair for bootcut jeans in brown (black is too harsh to bookend on me) and one pair to tuck into jeans, in a lighter brown color, maybe a cognac or chestnut.

1 dressy, 1 casual. color driven by the colors of your clothing that are smart/dressy vs casual.

i would go with a equestrian or moto riding boot for casual depending on your style

heeled boots (stiletto or wedge, again depending on your style) snug enough around your calf that you can wear it with dresses/skirts.

Zapotee - thank you! Those boots look very yummy in green. (I am always drawn to unusual colors in footwear) I am sure my pair was a knock-off of this one. I will keep an eye on these.

I am SO new to the boot world, but I would get a par of ankle boots/booties and a mid calf or knee length boot, if you're only getting 2. I would stick with either black or brown, whatever works best in your wardrobe....I am a total sucker for slouch boots so my first one was that!

I wear alot of black (and have black hair) so a pair of sleek knee-high black boots (flat or heeled) is an essential to me. I also like the idea of a brownish/chesnut pair that is more casual - I don't like the slouchy look myself so I would probably go for something like the Frye harness.

Oh my gosh, it's so nice to have everyones idea of the 2 perfect "boots to have in your closet. Seems the classic riding style boot is on most everyones list (thank goodness I already have those).....I decided to return my Ugg's I got at the NAS because I just couldn't see myself getting alot of use from them. I'm not sure if it was the color, although I love the color, I just would probably only wear them now thru fall. I decided to buy these today

In gray...and low and behold, they are the ones that Zapotee recommended earlier in this post. I think they will be the perfect 2nd pair. I can wear with skirts, skinnies, dresses, slacks, just about anything really.

I confess, I do have 2 other pairs of tall boots, one really dressy black pair with a higher heel and another dressier pair of brown boots. I just don't wear them very often because of the heel ( I have bad feet) Oh and I have a black and brown pair of booties, but I wasn't including them in this quiz.

aha, you fell into the intyce trap:) I've been eyeing the grey ones too, since I got rid of my grey boots, just recently. They were suede and really impractical for NY weather!

You will love these! They are the most comfortable boots I own. You are right, they are really versatile!!!!

One of my pairs would be equestrian but fairly classic that I coudl wear with jeans and informal skirts and dresses. And one would be with low heels and dressier. Both woudl be zip up. I would go with black for both for greatest wardrobe versatility.

Those are great boots! I would love to get a little wedge like that to add to my collection, but it probably won't happen this year. I don't think hubby could take it.
