Not a lot is speaking to me in terms of new trendy items for the coming seasons, but I am enjoying the abundance of light blue in footwear choices. So I’ve been checking out what is at retail, as you can see from my Finds.

As chance would have it, my husband gave me a lovely light blue leather tote for Christmas, by a local designer who is a friend and colleague of his (see her label in pic 4). I like that it’s simple with no metal hardware to match. I don’t, however, have a lot of light blue other than a chambray shirt and some pieces that have a bit of light blue in a print. I tend to favor more saturated or darker blues — cobalt, etc. But I like pale blue and would add more if I find the right piece.

However, I find that when it comes to bags, coordinating with footwear really helps tie an outfit together, so I think the arrival of trending blue shoes coinciding with this bag in my life is a sign that I could consider a new pair of summer shoes or sandals. I could see the light blue giving new life to a black and white or other neutral outfit. Or it could look good with one of my black summer dresses like the one from COS.

So this morning while I was getting dressed, I pulled out my two lighter blue bags and decided to see how I could work with them. I have this pair of Vince platform snake print sneakers that I adore, but they are not the most comfortable. I need to try wearing them around the house more to see if I can make them work. I even wonder if a gentle stretch along the leather on the top might work. The heels don’t slip off, which is a miracle in itself, so I’m reluctant to give up on them. And look how great they are with that pale blue bag!

I also got out this neglected Hobo bag and discovered that my Converse stretch sneakers actually go with it. The color is not exact but I don’t think it needs to be. This was a surprise I never noticed in my closet. So I think that will get me using that blue Hobo bag again!

Are you on the blue footwear train? And are you using complements like matching bag to shoes?
