My hair has been more or less long for my whole life. I have had chin length hair with layers a couple times. I've never had the guts to cut it really short. I'm thinking about it very seriously now though. I would love to make a pros and cons list with your help. I am also interested in discussing how hairstyle changes your wardrobe or affects your image. I would also love to hear from anyone who is made a dramatic hair change. I will post some pictures of my hair and ideas of styles I like. For some reason this just seems like a monumentally huge choice to me! Any feedback would be appreciated!!

Sounds exciting. Can't wait to see some images. Remember, changing your hair isn't as monumental as it might seem. It grows back, really!

I can't think of any cons. My favorite pro would be, if not now, when?

I cut my hair short in High School. It was the best thing I've ever done.

Pro's: 1. Easy easy easy to care for.
2. Easy to style.
3. Dries fast.
4. i think I get more respect for my intelligence.
5. When I was nursing, my kids could still play with my hair, but their hands didn't get tangled in it.
6. If you work with children or adolescents you are less likely to get lice. ( I had to throw that in because I work with that population, and it's an advantage).
7. No worries when I swim, which was the original reason I had it all chopped off. I was a swimmer and my hair didn't dry between my two swim practices. Wet head in Michigan winter was not fun.
8. Short hair looks good if you are athletic. I have run marathons and my hair looked fine. ( the rest of me is another story)

That's what I come up with spontaneously. I love having short hair.

One last thing about short hair is if you don't like it, you can grow it out again.

I've always done mine gradually - long to shoulder length to chin length to longish pixie to super short pixie. Are you comfortable wearing your hair in a ponytail or an updo, with all or most of your face and neck exposed? I rather like having my clothing and upper body unhidden by a curtain of hair. I do find it takes less time for me to style short hair, as mine takes forever to dry so the less hair the less time it takes. I tend to girl up my look more with really short hair - not all the time, though. Sometimes I embrace the tomboy look instead. I also like wearing hats much more now - my hair is too thick for a hat to stay on when it is longer. Depends on the person, of course, but short hair just feels more like me. Others don't feel like themselves without long hair. Like Jenn said, it does grow back, so worth trying just to see how it works for you.

Oh yes, what staysfit said - working out at night as I do and showering then going to bed with wet hair is much better when it's short, especially in winter.

I've cut my hair off from long to quite short quite a few times; I think it's fun to scare new-to-me stylists, especially!

I'm in the process of growing mine out now, but there are lots of pros for cutting it off.

Depending on how short you go, it can be hard to wear hats and still have hair visible, which is one of the cons I faced. But still, depending on the cut, that's avoidable. And it might not matter, anyway.

Hair grows. If you've been wanting to make a change, go for it.

I have had short hair most of my adult life but did have it long a few times in the last 10 years and find it easier to take care of but more work to maintain. It is easier because it dries faster, is less likely to get heat damaged because the ends are trimmed off frequently, and can be changed up by having bangs or blowing it back or tucking. It is more maintenance because you need to keep it in shape with trims every 5-6 weeks.

I recall you have very pretty features so a short cut would look lovely on you. Do you have any style in mind?

here are some pics of my hair. I was pregnant or nursing in a couple so some extra chub the last pic is my hair now and in it's "natural" shape: wavy, frizzy and unkempt.

After many years of no style dyed brown hair, I cut it all off and let it come in to its current color. That was pretty radical! Anyway, I think a shorter cut like in #1 gives you a more sophisticated look. You are very pretty and could really do anything from super short to your current length and look fab. I say live it up and try something you have always wanted to try!

1 2 3 are quite similar, short choppy bobs with side parted fringe. I love the look but if you don't like hair on your face you may spend a lot of time swishing it back, or as I do, pinning it behind your ear.

4 is a bit shorter.

I like them all, but they will probably need some styling and product to look like the pics.

I have had hair long, short and in between. Short feels wonderful in summer, and dries so quickly. However some mornings I would wake up and it would be heading in all different directions. When longer it does not quite do that as much.

I tend to think just go for it, it is fun to have a change

The cuts you show would look gorgeous on you - 1-3 especially. They are short, but not too drastic if you were to change your mind later - your hair would soon grow back. I'd go for it.

At the risk of being the only odd one out, I'm going to say I LOVE your hair the way it is now. While you still look very pretty with your hair short in #1, I love the soft look your natural curls bring to your face....and hence reflect in your style.

But then again...hair grows out! So experiment if you want! I know I do....

If you're doing it for practical reasons, I'd say re-visit your haircut from pic 1. I love your hair in pic 3 too

Maneera's post made me think I should clarify..I am totally pro cutting it because, speaking from experience, it's exciting, enlightening, and it grows back.
But not because I think it's not pretty now! It's very pretty!

I went today for my cut. I will be donating my hair to beautiful lengths. I really like the cut and can't wait to get home where I can style with my tools. I would like to go shorter next time but this was a nice change for now. Pic 1 and 2 are as styled by stylist, pic 3 is after swimming and styling a little myself. I like it more piecey.
